Saban should have stuck with Hurts!!

Hurts is a tough football player it showed last night. Being physically tough is a part of football overlooked. If I was an nfl team no way would I touch Tua. If he can’t hold up in the SEC how does he manage the NFL. The tackle in the Tennessee game was an every down play. I appreciate Hurts toughness and it obviously carries over to his teammates

How many former Alabama quarterbacks are starting in the NFL? How many former Alabama quarterbacks have started more than 10 games in a single season in the last 10 years in the NFL? If being a quarterback in the NFL is what a recruit is working towards why go to Alabama?
not trying to be an a/hole, but how many UT QB's have done anything in the NFL? (1) Auburn? (1) Georgia? (2) Florida? (0)

Saban should have told the better player in Tua to **** off so he could have kept Hurts.

Why was Saban even playing his starters in a division game? He should only play his backups and have his "starters" play 3 games a year. I'm sure they would love that.

The dumb **** I've read so far in this thread is baffling.

I believe all the blowback about Tua will end up in Saban leaving Bama sooner than otherwise. He's already teether on the brink from increasing indications of Bama vulnerability. An undermanned Tennessee team came close exposing him and possibly beating him had refs called the game honestly. His defense is giving up amounts of points it didn't before. LSU is highly likely to be the SECw team for the championship game. Now, the Tua event has folks far and wide irritated and pissing in his coffee. And that boy, if his, and it likely is career-ending, it will just get worse for Nickama. He's leaving as the Tuannilator.

What?

The tackle in the tennessee game? Every human being's ankle is injured after that play. It is not injury prone when a 300 pound man makes your ankle bend more than it likes.

I have always felt Saban put too much stock in Tua and abandoned the big physical tough persona Alabama has been known for. Also by keeping Tua over the veteran, once Hurts left, Alabama was left with nothing as a backup behind Tua. They go into next season with a huge question mark at QB and WR, and defense after losing 8 early draft picks. Had they kept and played Hurts through this season Tua would then start his RS JR and Sr years, he still would have been great and he would have likely avoided the injuries he's suffered. I bet Saban wishes he had a healthy Sr leader in Hurts right now.

Vols situation with JG and everyone wanting the young guys to play now is very similar to what Alabama was going through with Hurts and Tua. I think it would be suicide to run JG off and put our faith in the young unproven QBs. Senior leadership with lots of snaps under your belt will always be your best bet to win unless the talent is clearly different and the younger player is on a different level than everyone else. QB room will be a plus if CJP can get them all to stay as well as add Bailey.

This years basketball team is fun to watch, looks like a tournament team to me! :)

Without Tua Alabama would be lucky to get ten wins. Tua is simply better than Hurts, and Alabama is not good enough to just run it down peoples throats and depend on their defense anymore. Saban realized this and figured he could extend the dynasty by simply outscoring people with Tua. That being said I love watching Alabama start to crack. They will come crack to earth over the next 5 years.

You think Tua's brother was not 5 star? LOL He starts, you do NOT want that family exposing how they ended up in Alabama being moved there from Hawaii.
He wasn't close to being a 5 star, so yes I don't believe he was a 5 star. Barely even in the top 200. Still good, but young is the 4th overall player this year according to 247. Not exactly a comparison.

The same people who believe he should only play him 1/2 of all but 3 games a year are the same one who'd be posting in January @ how Saban sank Tua's Heisman campaign again by taking him off the field so much during the season.

I totally understand despising one's enemy. But, that shouldn't make people choose stupid as an option.

If Tua and JG changed teams then the previous 2 years Tua would have alot of broken bones.

And Tennessee would have won a lot more games, and Alabama would have lost a lot more games.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Tennessee has had more QBs make NFL rosters in the last twenty years than Alabama has had in its entire history.

Even at the moment I can think of 3 former UT QBs currently on NFL rosters. There are probably a couple I'm missing.

"have done anything" is what I said. Not making a roster. If that's the case, you are correct. Absolutely.

So Saban should’ve sat the much better, much more acccurate Tua, who won him and Alabama their last National Title, in favor of the guy who Tua had to replace because the team was 100% going to lose with him in at QB.

Furthermore, you don’t think he should’ve gone with guy (Tua) who has done nothing but win games while setting passing record after passing record for the best offense in college football?

Alrighty then.

Also, you cannot make decisions to not play a guy based on you think he might get injured, doesn’t work that way. If a guy is cleared medically and ruled good to go, you play him. Tua was, once again, outstanding yesterday in the first half before the freak hip injury.

Nah, I believe Saban made the right decision to go with Tua, the better player, over Hurts.

Tua is the better QB. He may not be the runner that Hurts is, but he's head and shoulders better than Hurts in the passing game.
And it's really not even close. Hurts is nothing more than an good athlete playing QB...
Tua is a true QB.

Hurts had his chance to lead Alabama to a NC and lost to Clemson.
Tua had to replace him to start the 2nd half against UGA the next season because Hurts led Bama to score 0 points in the first half of the NC game.
It is true that Hurts did come in to relieve an injured/hurting Tua in the 2018 SEC Championship game to help Bama beat UGA.
But do any of you really think Hurts could've beaten that Clemson team last year??

Saban made the right call in going with Tua.
Saban is by no means a perfect FB coach--he does make mistakes.
But it's always the Saban-haters who come out from under the rocks looking for opportunities to criticize him.
The man has won 6 NCs--with two different SEC teams!
I'd say that buys him the benefit of the doubt...

I don't buy the "poor Jalen Hurts--Big bad Bama and Saban screwed him over" argument postulated here.

Dabo endured some of the same criticisms when he elevated Lawrence to starting QB over Bryant.

Saban has had a boat load of talent to be successful at bummer. He is now experiencing the injury bug which didn't occur much for bummer when they won the natty's. Easy to coach when up twenty plus points a majority of the time. You can take up for him but yesterday he had a decision to make regarding tua and being up 28. That decision to not insert jones has bit him in the ass. Bet he regrets it now.

He should have put in the 2nd string quarterback when Alabama had a 35-7 lead over Mississippi State because they weren't coming back.
Easy to say in hindsight. It was still the 2nd quarter for crying out loud. Any coach in the country, rightfully, plays his staying QB the entire first half, regardless of the score, and most if not all also play him a portion if not all of the 3rd before putting in the backup.

Very well said. Don’t know how anybody could argue with this, although I’m sure some knuckleheads in here will.
