Safe way to download from Youtube?

Anyone know of a safe method of downloading something from Youtube? I used to use a rip program that worked perfectly, but it's been so long I can't remember what it was.

All of the programs I have tried from a google search are viruses. So I no longer trust any of them and am asking for recommendations that are safe.

Which browser do you use? I used to use a Firefix plugin that did the trick. There's probably one for Chrome as well.

Simple.

Change the Youtube URL once you are on Youtube's site. Delete everything in front of the "y" and put in "ss". Then hit enter.

Example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ncef44CHrI

Change to

ssyoutube.com/watch?v=-ncef44CHrI

and hit enter.

The alternative to this is to go to Savefrom.net and enter the youtube URL.

You just paste the UK and hit enter. It will let you download in various formats.

If you are on a Mac you will need to update your Java and allow it to run on the site.

Just FYI

There is a simple chrome extension you can add that will let you download videos from just about every other site other than Youtube, it's called FVD Video Downloader.
