Just curious .. anyone know where a good, close to Neyland boat ramp might be?

There are two close to campus off Alcoa Hwy-- TVA boat ramp at Topside Rd. and I.C. King Park. Concord Park/Marina in West Knoxville is further, but it's a nice cruise up to the stadium and you'll have a lot of Vol fans for company.

Volunteer Landing is downtown and very close to Neyland, but it's a zoo on gameday. Arrive early-- there will be lines everywhere!

Douglass Dam on the French Broad river makes up Douglass lake and the Holston river is damed up by Cherokee Dam and forms Cherokee Lake. A few miles below each dam the rivers come together to form the mighty Tennessee. Neither dam has locks unfortunately.

Depends on how far you want to go on the water after you put in. Carl Cowan Park and Concord Park are both west on Northshore about even with Lovell and Campbell Station exits. Great ride up the river on game days with Vol Navy. Got to be ready for a cool ride home after the sun sets though. Just follow the big boats and stay in the channel as there are some really shallow flats, especially just east of the Pellissippi bridge.

By the way, the ride both ways in a ski boat under 24' can get really rough when the drunk a$$holes in their 40ft cruisers with twin corvette engines decide they want to get back to the marina before everyone else, they really don't care and some will even laugh at folks getting bounced out of their seats. Also happens when you're following 3 or 4 of them that are staying in line. Wakes bounce off the shore and get it can get tough. Try to get out first or last if you've got small kids. They'll be miserable from all the wake crashing. It's the very reason I got a cabin cruiser.

Just a couple of minutes away on the same side of the river....under the James White P'way

http://www.cityofknoxville.org/parks/mcwherter.asp

A 'bump' I suppose but also a clarification.....this is the closest, only a couple of minutes away in Downtown Knoxville.....
I wanted to add it has a good concrete ramp an is kept in good repair....Rescue uses it for retrieving 'bridge jumpers'.....I drop a 27' there a couple of times a year, one to view dogwoods and flowers in spring and another time in fall for the color change on the river....only downside is its kinda risky parking your car there, epically overnight...

Always wondered about that! I have a 24' wakeboard boat, but have been in heavy traffic water like that and it's not fun! I've always wanted to pull it down there just to hit the Vol Navy once, but it just seems like to much a PITA!!

My wife asked me if there was a way we could get our houseboat over there from Dale Hollow. Took about all I had not to laugh right in the poor girl's face.
