I am looking into st John's fl to live during the winter.

Can anyone who lives there tell me the pros and cons?

Also how would you compare st Augustine and Daytona beach to destin. I know gulf vs Atlantic ocean etc but how would you rate them.

I am more inclined to pick Destin but my wife is Filipino and st John's has a large Filipino group.

Thanks!

I worked NASJAX off-on for several years out of Atlanta and thought about moving there but it was still too cold for me in the Winter. :) True.

If you are going to live near Jacksonville as long as you stay out of the 295 loop for the most part you are alright. St.Johns isn't too far from beaches and Ponte Vedra which is nice. "Winter" is like a few days with a light jacket MAYBE.

I'm eyeballing a move to Amelia Island myself.

Oh, and thanks for the Filipino info. I might have to snoop around that area next time I am there :)

My opinion based on beach + surrounding area would be:

Destin >> St. Augustine > Daytona Beach.

Frankly, I don’t think there is any comparison between Destin vs St Aug that favors St Aug but others could disagree.

I completely agree with beaches but as far as living there 3 to 4 months out of the year and then maybe the entire year concerns me a little with hospital care and feeling land locked in destin.

Only reason I am looking at st johns.

Make the wife happy. St John's it will be. :). Been there once, stayed at the Courtyard because wife wanted to go to St Augustine. Nice area but we (wife prefers Gulf where she grew up) stay mostly west and take day trips over to the east coast. That's the nice thing, we can be over to Atlantic for Shuttle launch or to stay a night in about 3 hours. Sorry not really much help.

Well, if health care an issue, St. Aug is close enough to Jacksonville that shouldn’t be a problem. Ponte Vedra is even closer - maybe a little more pricey but should still be ok if you don’t need to be right on the beach.

I had to go to the ER in FtWalton last January. Not a very large hospital.
Ft Walton is larger than Destin, and it's not that big.
The better hospitals are in PCB and Pensacola.

History? Destin bit more likely to get hurricaned? Just being a devil's advocate: I still like the panhandle.

I like okaloosa island.

Was looking at a 3 bedroom at destin west that we liked alot. Huge balcony and multiple pools for grand kids....one day.

Onky condo I ever felt could be home.

How did u feel about their Er?
I am very healthy but one day I will be old lol.

Yes, St. Aug has a long history. I like visiting historical places but prefer living in the present. I’m not sure which area in Fl is most at risk for the next big hurricane. I just like Destin for beaches, good food, reasonable housing costs and not too crowded. Jax definitely has excellent health care facilities with Mayo Clinic in town and closer to E Tenn so those are 2 positives.

ER was good. They have all kinds of Drs. , but living in Nashville one gets accustomed to better.

We stay for the month of January typically. Avg high is 62 avg low in the 40s. Jacksonville is warmer.

The area is great for visiting. Too many tourist to live there. At least close to the beach.

I was going to suggest Amelia Island, actually. I used to live there, and my parents are living there now. Make sure you buy in the unincorporated area towards the south end of the island. The City of Fernandina Beach and its city commission tend to be batsh*t crazy.

St. Johns/Ponte Vedra isn't bad, it has grown a lot since I have been there for any length of time.
