Apprently Sam was high on Alabama's list. Arkansas responded with a 225K and 2 year extension to keep him.

That bring his total compensation to 500K a year, for an O-line coach.

I don't know much about Don Mahoney other then the fact that he is one of Butch's boys, but it certainly seems we kicked a high caliber coach to the curb.

Neat. Has nothing to do w/Tennessee football anymore.

You think Coach Jones's ability to select position coaches has nothing to do with Tennessee Football anymore?

You don't think that Butch Jones's loyalty to his Central Michigan coaches may never be a potential problem for our program in the future?

What!? This has everything to do with our program.

Chemistry is cheap. It's not hard to learn to get along with your coworkers or to pick up the head coach's system.

High quality position coaches on the other hand...

I don't think it is as cheap as you think, but like everything else, I could be wrong :good!:

You really can't fault CBJ for going with what his gut told him to do. CBJ has won everywhere he's went, and he brought here what he felt were the main pieces to him being able to win. The consequences of a coaching change is you might lose one or two of those great assistants in the process. Pittman was one of them, but even after today if you told me which do you keep Pittman or CJG I'm going with CJG. It could have been worst too, he could have left right before NSD...

Don Mahoney is just as good of an offensive line coach as Sam Pittman. He's coached a lot of current players in the NFL. Jason Kelce is an example. I'm glad Butch and Bajakian went with the guy who can implement their zone blocking schemes.

Chill out, Nancy. All I was meaning is that Pittman is at Arky now, so this should be in the Around the NCAA forum, IMO.

But, if you want to twist it into something else based on how you think CBJ can't select coaches relative to who you and other people think she SHOULD'VE kept, then yeah, okay. Appropriate forum.

Agree. Too many fans ready to jump off a cliff because we didn't keep certain people who those same fans thought we should keep.

I'll trust CBJ on this one until he actually proves me wrong.

I think jones is messing up with his good ole boys, He should have hired top norch coaches & recruiters

like Auburn did. They even had the NCAA hanging over them, and a coach who has not coached (head coach) at this level when making hires. I guess we will see if they can coach or not, but every time I start to feel positive again, I get hit in the stomach.

I agree with the notion that chemistry is a HUGE deal. If I'm in charge of a project in my profession it's much easier to meet my goals if I have people on the same page as I am, even if they are a little less knowledgeable than a guru like myself who won't work with the group. That's a fact jack!
