Sam has been a wonderful addition and has done her tough job better than we could have dreamed. A very solid, smart leader.

However, realistically, her W chances are a longshot. She's small, 5'7" and not particularly quick. If she keeps playing the way she is now, she will likely get a training camp tryout and would have an outside chance to stick on a team. Longshot, but a possibility. Could be a journeywoman, like Odyssey Sims, who gets replacement contracts when someone on roster gets hurt.

I continue to say, people undersestimate how hard it is to make a W roster. Rookies, even high draftees, who not only make the roster but start and thrive are very, very rare.

Without her running the show we would be no where near 15 and 2 and three points from being undefeated. She has been amazing for us. NCAA needs to make that fifth year now bring her back.
Would be a godsend for the LVs next year. To have such a smart, mature player to mentor the incoming pg class would be amazing.

SS is definitely the pg the LVs needed so desperately the last two seasons. Bad luck of timing.

She is so good and seemingly such a delightful person. I feel so lucky Kaniya has gotten to play behind Spencer. I cannot sing her praises enough.

As I understand it, NCAA proposal is not to add a full 5th year but to extend the Football model to all sports. That means a player would have 5 seasons to compete in 4 1/3 seasons.

Sam would be able to play the pre-conference schedule next season but nothing else (or spread out her 12 games). Neither option seems feasible in terms of bringing her back as a core player.

the good thing is the twins are true PG's and we will have some VERY athletic and skilled recruits with them

Imagine the defender wondering every second which one they're defending,,,it would have to be mindboggling

Sam isn't constantly turning the ball over, and that has been what has made the biggest difference this season. Lord knows we had problems with that in the past decade, but Samara is golden.

glv98, on Samara I'm thinking she may be the exception to the rule on the W. You are absolutely right that that making a roster these days is nearly impossble. It's brutal. But I have a feeling that Spencer being a tight ball-handler, has become a dependable, cool three-point shooter, and generally how she carries herself on the court, just screams "I've got this" to me. She can handle her position at the college level, and I truly believe she can make a roster in the Dubya -- at the very least as a backup. She plays smart, and that's everything.

P.S. Having WNBA exec (and LVFL) Nikki Caldwell Fargas in the arena last night may have been a very good thing for Spencer.

Both low turnovers and efficient 3 pt shooting have been huge boosts fm Spencer this yr. She's raised her 3 pt % significantly, and consistently enough to make me think its a real gain, not just an occassional hot game.

Hope you're right, if playing in the W is something SS wants. It would be great if she or Jewel got drafted, possibly late second round, bc it would keep the LVs streak of having players drafted alive. Afraid the first round streak is over. I expect both SS and Jewel to at least get a early training or development camp look. PGs are at a premium in the W so that should help.

Man I love Nikki. She is so poised and confident on camera, so impressive She, Candace, Andryea, and Tamika are fantastic ambassadors for the LVs every single time they're on. I believe Jewel Spear is going to be the next of those.

Spud Webb was too small for the NBA too---how did that work out

You are 100% correct about the difficulty of making and sticking in the W. Lots of really good players don't make the cut. Sometimes being a great player for your college team is the career pinnacle.

Being undersized is an issue. I think she is fine on quickness and her B-ball IQ is sky high. But, there are more than a few players with those same assets. The competition (which is global) for PG spots is astronomically high.

I think she might be able to find a spot in one of the international leagues if she had that inclination.

Absolutely, SS has been a huge pick-up. She and Cooper are the essential players for whom there is no filling the gap.

It is showing in their minutes as the comp picks up. Even with all the rotations, Spencer played over 30. I know +- is an imperfect state but she was +19 and Boyd was - 9. And that is not a knock on Boyd, She is stepping up as a freshman but there is no denying that the teams offensive execution drops off without Sam running the show. In the games where the LVs are getting a lot of transition buckets, the drop off is less obvious but in a game with more half court sets (like MSST), it really shows when Sam is not on the court.
