Sampson next year?

If he was splitting carries with Lewis (who played well and has earned touches next year), his numbers would go down and that would affect his draft position.

He will go to the draft so that he has a longer shelf life in the NFL.

Can't blame him whatsoever. Heart of a lion, and one of my favorite Vols that's come through the program.

Backs aren’t the commodity they use to be in the nfl and although I love Sampson I’m not sure he will be held in high regard in the draft. Looking at Wright and Small that have almost zero role on any team makes me have my doubts Sampson would fair any better. With NIL maybe it’ll be a tougher decision.

Money is money for one year anyway - NIL vs. NFL. He may be thinking of his Oline as well as in who’s good enough to actually block effectively for him at UT.

He's going to go get a bag. He was overused this year and there is only some much tread on the tires for a running back.
I kinda agree with him being overused this year. We have some very good young players that should have played more but the coaches get paid a ton of money to make those decisions. Hindsight is 20/20

He had over 1000 yards and 20 tds behind an apparently god awful O-line. How can it get worse?

I selfishly want him to come back, but he should declare for the draft
I think most of us fall into that camp. Having said that this is being talked up as a very good RB class so if he can get a good NIL deal he might at least be tempted to wait. I personally think he's more likely than not gone but I don't think it's a given.

Imagine this, Sampson stays and Hype schemes him in at the slot and running back. (Kamara!) Use our other 2 backs in full back/RB/TE situations.

It would make our formations less predictable for defenses to match up with.

But seriously, what's he garunteed nfl .......750k , with option of 1m.
Could Vols entice him to stay?
Possibly....

I posted this before. Do you think Dylan Sampson is better than Tank Bigsby? Here is Bigsby's rookie contract.

I don't know Tank honestly, and I do see the signing bonus... but if he gets cut ... hurt etc.. it's not a 4 year deal, I don't think is it? Hey but I'm definitely not in the know, of the internal details of nfl contracts. Just pointing out Vols could probably offer some options.

I did find this, which is my Google knowledge of potentially nfl comparisons. Again I'm prolly not knowledgeable enough in this category to understand it all I'm sure,... but I do think if you're cut or.... it's not a 4yr deal.

The biggest thing is the shelf life, as others have said, isn't long for RBs in the NFL BUT you're vested in the NFL's good retirement plan if you can make 3 full seasons.

Certainly, he might not make a team but he probably would at least make a practice team and have his resume on the desk of other teams.

If he's thinking about possibly getting injured, I'd rather get hurt in the NFL than get hurt in college and never get a chance in the NFL.

All good points, we'll see.

Go while you can and have the option.
Good thing is that the highest a RB will likely go, even the kid from Boise St, is early 2nd round...probably.closer to mid 2nd or 3rd.

That means Sampson could potentially go to a team that has a decent O Line that uses the RB in their scheme and have a vert good career...like a Philly, Vikings, Falcons type team.
