Despite playing third string to Jaylen Wright and Jabari Small, Tennessee running back Dylan Sampson’s young career has gotten off to a strong start.

Sampson has played in 13 games so far for Tennessee, and he’s scored 12 touchdowns. Sampson has scored a touchdown in seven of 13 games and multiple touchdowns in three of those.

Furthermore, Sampson has scored his 12 touchdowns on just 91 total touches (rushes and catches). That’s a 13 percent touchdown rate, which is a jaw-dropping efficiency.

To put it into perspective, James Stewart has the record for most touchdowns scored by a running back in Tennessee history with 39, and his touchdown rate is less-than-half of Sampson’s at six percent.

3 great RBs.......definitely a good problem to have. I will admit, Sampson is a dynamic runner though.

Not to take anything away from him because I think he is incredible, but some of that is skewed by being subbed in near the goal line after one of the other backs played the majority of the drive.

But again, he is electric when he does get to play most of the drive.

Love to see it continue in SEC games. The man has shown he can motor to the end zone.

One thing that is commonly stated in fantasy football is that Touchdown rates are largely random and don't correlate year to year. Not sure if that holds up for college football or not, but he definitely looks electric irregardless.

Dylan kind of reminds me of young Clinton Portis. Maybe not Portis' top speed yet but certainly the wiggle and vision.

Sampson reminds me of Kamara. Thankfully Heupel is a better judge of talent than Sargent Carter, so I see him getting more and more touches.

Hopefully the Vols have some plays drawn up for Sampson. He is very dynamic and it would be a shame to waste his talent, especially when we owe the Gamecocks an ass whoopin.
