I've been watching the SD fires closely since my sister lives there. Fortunately, she and her home are safe although the big fire (Witch Creek) was within 5-6 miles of her house.

One political (potentially) comment I've already heard is the linking of this to Global Climate change.

The second hasn't yet arrived but because the response has been so good, the comparisons to Katrina response have begun.

Prediction: This will be broken down on race and class lines. The response was good because SD has more white and middle class residents.

Reality: Better leadership across the board from the municipal, state and federal level coupled with lessons learned from Katrina are the core reasons.

Having visited extensively, there is a much more active municipal leadership in SD and the residents cooperate in managing public resources.

How long before Al and Jesse step up?

Sorry to jump a bit off of your question, but I saw on the news this morning that arson is suspected in at least two of the fires.

I just don't get people sometimes.

I see the point of someone saying well there is more white people in SD so the response was better. Some politician is going to bring up the race lines. I have been to SD, and I have been to NO prior to katrina. The city of NO was basically rotting from the inside out. I mean at one point the FBI shut down their Police Department because of corruption. The mayor there is an idiot and put levee repairs the back burner and it bit him in the tail. The gov of LA is an idiot as well, and it seemed like they were trying to fight the federal government for aid. In San Diego, its a lot nicer, because its ran much better. I mean ever since it was discovered by the germans in the 1920s (anchorman haha). I really hope it doesnt get to that point, but Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson are idiots, and i believe people like them are the reason race becomes a problem, because they make race a problem. But im sure somehow this problem will be related by the left wing idiots as being Bush's fault somehow. I mean they blame him for everything else,, i wouldnt be suprised if i opened a textbook and saw that George W caused the dinosaurs to go extinct,,,,

this many homes go up in flames and no one should be patting eachother on their back. and i'd say it a lot easier to outrun fires than it is hurricanes.

Definitely easier to outrun.

As for the # of houses burnt - hard to say. So far it appears that things were handled about as well as they could be.

very true, but itd be just as easy to out run a hurricane if the state and local government has its stuff together and keeps emergency plans, as well as keeps things that maintain the city in good condition (cough) levees (cough)

yes - fire is hunting down black residents and their homes.

and yes - Bush is more than likely to blame for this too.

but dont forget, Hillary will fix it WHEN she gets the whitehouse.

I am resigned to the idea that politiziation(sp?) is simply a media supported fact of life. The right seems to have their "intentions" measured much more than the left does.

Not whinning or crying, just stating facts as I see them. If it wasn't happening Rush, Hannity, and Beck would not have more money than they can count.

Didn't San Diego suffer a huge fire a few years ago? If I am not mistaken, it was not handled as well. I would wager that this has more to do with it (local lessons learned) than federal response (lessons learned from Katrina/Rita).

George Bush doesn't care about flammable people.

Its not that he does not care, its that the fire specifically hunted those people down. It was a "minority only" seeking fire that was undoubtedly caused by either the Republicans or Bush himself. Now, inorder to fix the problem, he needs to bring back the substantial rain he has been accused of causing in years past. Afterall, Bush does control the weather and Chuck Norris controls everything else. :)

this may condem me to hell, i really dont care, but one thing that i thought was funny. When new orleans was turned into a waterpark, did anyone see the picture of that guy that stole that plasma TV from the store? Does he think that they come with their own power source? i mean honestly, where does he think hes going to plug it up at? and on top of that, water+plasma TV=BAAAAAAAADDDDD i mean honestly,

well we all know that katrina was caused by chuck norris and poseiden getting into a fight, and posiden losing. But i think George sent chuck in because he thought that Posiden had WMD's,, so thats why katrina happened. also its george bush's fault the idiot mayor or dumb gov didnt fix them before this battle occured. I think Andrew Jackson should have leveled the place in 1812, anyway, haha

thats cool. next time i will be tailgating is when i go down for the GSU/Furman game. Last time they came to our house, the cops came to our tailgate, not to yell at us about the uber amounts of beer, and drunkeness, but to not talk as much smack to the furman fans that walked by. it was awesome
