What say you?

Sankey said, “We right now are not thinking about maintaining a two-division format for football scheduling in the SEC. It would potentially be one single division with the idea that we want to rotate our teams through our campuses more frequently."

SEC Football Is Reportedly 'Leaning Heavily' Towards Making Significant Change

So this year TN would play GA in the SECCG.

Interesting point. Let's say that were to happen in 2026 when the CFP expands to 12 and we presumably stay in the top 12, but towards the bottom and aligned for a THIRD game. If we lost the second matchup and beat them that third time, it would be kind of crummy, no?

If we beat them the third time? I think you worded that wrong? That would be good, right?

The 12 team playoff is exciting. It is difficult to imagine Huepel misses that 12 team selection very often.

I worded it wrong and edited, sorry. Yeah I was saying if we lost game 1, lost game 2 and won game 3. In my opinion, it makes the conference championship game meaningless.

Would be a cool way to keep your biggest rivalries while also making schedules a little more fair. UGA getting to play Auburn MSU while we play Bama and LSU is BS.
I think we're going to want Bama every year after Saban retires (which will probably happen in the next 3-5 years). Who in their right mind would take that job?

Without divisions can you still have a championship game?
It makes more sense to me since it seems repeatedly each year the two best teams come from one division each year. So instead of the conference championship being between the two best teams in theSEC it’s between the best team and a far weaker one.

My understanding is yes you would still have a championship game. I'm sure there would be a number of tiebreakers used to determine the top two where there will inevitably be several teams with the same records.

Yes. The Big12 and Pac12 currently use a format of no divisions with the top 2 teams playing in the Championship game.

I think it is the best of all possible scenarios. I want to maintain the rivalries, but would love the schedules to be balanced.
I just wish the Championship Game would not drop the loser from the Playoffs.

I feel Conference Championship Games should never count against either team in Bowl or playoff selection.

Why should any team be penalized for being good?

Because the SEC is about to EAT the NCAA - there will be the SEC and then there will be everyone else outside of it looking in like this:

Do we need a championship game? Four pods. Each winner gets a playoff bid. No problem. The sec should get 4 bids every year anyway

Tired of playing Vandy and Ky every season.

And how many times have either of those conferences had 2 teams in the playoff? Sounds like a good idea to copy what they do.

I'm all for keeping biggest rivalries but is it an even playing field for everyone.
