I think where we were just two years ago. I remember all the conversations on this board in past years as to whether we'd be lucky enough to get to the Taxslayer Bowl. Today, our team is ranked in the Top Six in the nation, and we're playing in a New Year's Six Bowl. I'm so proud to be a Tennessee Vol, and I'm excited that our future is bright. Go Vols!

Agree but it’s hard not to reflect on what we lost.

It’s been a good year, and if we win our bowl game it’s possible we end up in the top three final rankings depending on other bowl games

I'm happy with no 6...sure it would've been nice to have beaten SC and be in the playoffs, but it didn't happen and I've moved in from that...A ton of teams have had a disappointing lost this season...we're headed in the right direction and hopefully our defense is much better next season...VFL 🏈 GBO 🧡👊🍊

Well said. Our future is ahead of us and not in our rear view mirror.

Go VOLS

Maybe it's just because I'm getting older, but time has taught me disappointments can be important stepping stones. I believe our team will learn from the loss in Columbia and will be stronger for it next season.

Sadly with the number of key players we are losing this year, next year is going to be an 8-4, 9-3 season at best. That’s why the SC loss hurt so much. We may not be in this position again for a while (we hadn’t been this close in 20 years).

I say that with optimism. The return to relevance this year will prove to be the greatest catalyst for revival of this program. Everyone knew and heard about TN this year. We no longer hope the top recruits had a family member who played for the Vols in the 90s. We’re relevant to them again because of us winning and those scenes from Neyland. “If you build it they will come.” The future is bright.

Losing to SC may end up being valuable as a teaching moment. I have no regrets over this season. We overachieved my expectations and can grow from the experience. With another year to prepare for the 12 team playoff, we are in a good spot for sustained success. I am enjoying the ride, and the rise back to CFB prominence for the Power T. It really reminds me of the late 80’s and early 90’s…and I believe we’ll end up at the top of the heap sooner rather than later.

Georgia was a teaching moment.
Agree but it’s hard not to reflect on what we lost.
We lost the SEC East when Georgia beat us down. No one outside of Tennessee fans believe we could play for and win a national title after that. The South Carolina loss was merely the final nail.
Now we need to do like Michigan did, and lock in ALL season on beating UGA, and regaining our respect. Everybody harping on the South Carolina like that ass-kicking them Dawgs put on us ain't still floating around out there. Are we pretending it didn't happen???

I don't know...we'll still have great players with a ton coming in...and there's the T-portal and JUCO as well...👍

Every team loses key players, that's one of the many things that make college football so great. Way too early, but we could win 9-10 games next year. Rumor is, our coaches feel we may have one of the best DL's in the conference next year.

New Year's Eve two is the goal.

Agree but it’s hard not to reflect on what we lost.

Many thought this program was dead and buried. Forever. In Heupel’s 2nd season, we’re 10-2, ranked #6, 2nd in the SEC, and headed to a NY6 game. Reflecting on “what we lost” is for people who dwell on negativity.

This program is among the elite now. There are going to be many more opportunities going forward.

Losing South Carolina was not expected and removed the team from CFP consideration.

However, if you had asked anyone here prior to the season and said the VOLS have wins over UF, Bama, LSU and are 10-2 with an orange bowl berth, 99% would be thrilled with that result.

It's going to be hard to reflect on this season until we get a truthful accounting of what happened the week of the SC game.

with that said, I wasn't expecting an NY6 bowl back in September, so it's exciting. I just worry about what the mysterious defensive performance against the Gamecocks means for our (and Coach Heupel's) future when similar problems pop up. It was a true Dooley moment.

True.. if they learned something for it (and I bet they did).. there is no point in sitting around worrying about the might have beens.. look forward to the future, because we don’t have time travel yet lol

I remember when Mullen took over at Florida and led them to a NY6 his first year. Boy, was I envious, and yet here I sit thinking only about what might have been even with our own team basically in the same situation.

All you but people, screw you! We wallowed in quicksand for two decades. We endured being Bama-Pruitted. And we have a winning season with epic stats and a major bowl to play. If you can't savor that without a but, you simply can't savor being a Vols fan! It's like having a banana split with extra scoops of vanilla ice cream and complaining the bananas aren't mangoes and the ice cream isn't soy milk creamy vanilla. Savor the moment or not at all.

I think it was because we knew how good the team was/is and that’s what gave us PTSD 😂.. I think we have a lot of reason for optimism going forward, though…
