He made a UCLA QB who could not have had a worse 1st half of football (4 interceptions), look like a Heisman candidate in the second half.

i am a bit concerned about this character , we EXPECT excellence at LSU as i am sure you all are aware. how long was he the UT DC again ?

he put a whole lot of UT athletes into the NFL as starters, including several first round picks. and his defenses were never terrible (statistically) no matter how much we complained.

there.

the 3rd down thing vs. UW made me VERY nervous but hey , he cant be that bad right ? i was excited about the hire at first. taking a wait and see attitude for now.

Have you guys adopted the term "3rd and Chavis" yet? Embrace it.

I can say something nice. He doesn't look nearly as goofy in his LSU hat as Miles does.

you should just glance at TD.com , 3rd and chavis threads are started every ten minutes. we are in full meltdown mode (after a win )

Les miles made a huge mistake. The only reason why he stayed around so long is that UT is rich in tradition so he could get top notch recruits. Top athletes can only go so far on the field. The rest is up to coaching.

Major problems
-if you jump on somebody hard and quick he will want to cruise instead of stay on the peddle which makes teams climb back into the game, reference UK 2 years ago. nearly lost a blowout game, took like 3-4 overtimes to win a blowout
-If it is third down hold your breath, he like to play 10 yards off the man so he gets nailed right when they get to the first down marker. reference any game
-If a team finds a good offensive play they can use it all game because Chavis will not change to stop it. Reference UCLA last year or Albama 2 years ago. Bama threw to the same person every down. A fool knew where the ball was going and no man coverage was ever put on him. Also reference LSU sec champ game in 2001. Matt up the middle Mauck every play and no qb spy on him one time in the game. A fool knew what he was going to do
-If your up near the very, very end of the game just hope LSU doesn't play soft or you could get a game ending drive thrown on you. Reference UGA in 2001. Beat us in Knoxville with a freshman qb with 43 seconds left. No pass rush what so ever near the end. Only the prevent

So all in all have fun, Third and Chavis is in a town near you

He's a very good defensive coach but an awful game coach as a coordinator.

Our defense that was supposedly the 3rd best in the nation last year was only 10th in the SEC in stopping 3rd down conversions. We don't call him "3rd and Chavis" for nothing. His playcalling, particularly his inability to make adjustments in the 2nd half as well as his prevent defense (the "Mustang" package), will cost LSU in at least one big game this year that they might otherwise have won.
