The "menacing" part is a bit histrionic but there's nothing really new about the basic idea. It has long been decided, for instance, that there are limits to the 1st Amend. Strict limitations on machine guns and, sawed-off shotguns have been around for many years. The Heller decision actually delved into this question to no small amount.

The argument is what would constitute "reasonable" regulations. That one's up for no small amount of debate.

tell you what, I'll allow idiot politicians and judges to make rulings on guns when they are able to accurately tell what kind they are. Anyone using the phrase "assault rifle" to describe a scary looking gun they can't even identify should be banned from making those decisions permanently

When the politicians call in gun experts, are they called nerds as well? Or is that just for that new fangled internet contraption.

What the justice apparently fails to remember is that the second amendment was put in place to be sure that the citizens could always protect themselves from an over intrusive federal government.:machgun:

experts are paid well and their opinions are known well in advance. Someone calling an AR-15 an assault weapon is not an expert IMO

once upon a time, a Springfield Repeater would have been considered an "assault weapon"

so could a longbow

so could a rock

anything could be used as an assault weapon, what matters is the intent of the person holding the weapon and no government legislation is going to help that

In the last 4 years the number of AR15's and Ak47's (semi auto versions) being sold has sky rocketed.
If Obama has been successful at anything, he has been the best gun seller the world has ever known.
Assault weapons....lol
