i plan on going to a few games and just buying tickets from others who have them...

all the ones on the net are way to expensive. i am not spending 300 bucks to watch a game against UAB.

i hope i can get them cheaper at the stadium.

I have done this many times and I've never had a problem getting into a game. You've just got to be willing to work a little bit and be patient. Don't panic if you get down to 20 minutes before kickoff without a ticket. That's when the deals occur.

every time i have been to neyland i have purchased from scalpers, last game i recall was ut/ga in 99 i believe and i sat on the 50yd line 1st row 2nd level for 65 bux. awesome seats for the price i thought. i bought tickets from the same guy that year for the memphis game as well, 50 yd line 35 rows up for 35 bux. he was right beside ruby tuesdays off cumberland. one thing about ut games, you never have to worry about getting tickets, scalpers are plenitful.

Scalpers sell them for about as same as they do on the internet. They can get away with it because the people that actually drive to the game without tickets are that desperate to get in. I've never sold tickets myself...but a friend of mine bought two Lady Vols tickets from a scalper last season. These tickets usually run around $12...and they were pretty close to the floor, but she ended up paying $50 a piece for them. :p

That's exactly what I was talking about earlier. If you do go the scalper route - and you're looking for a deal - you cannot be desperate and you have to be willing to even miss half the first quarter if necessary. Otherwise, you might as well just buy an inflated ticket off the internet.

Or you could do what I have always thought about doing.
1. Walk normally not making eye contact with the scalper......
2. Switch things that you're carrying over to your left hand.....
3. Reach out and grab those tix out of his hand.....
4. RUN!!

My friend Tim ( who was killed last year) was a HUGE Vol fan. His wife asked me for help finding tickets for part of his birthday present, since she wasn't familiar with the internet. I found some message board where a guy had two tickets for $68 total and they were together. Angie was thrilled with the price , the seats were good, and I got to do something for a friend that I didn't know wouldn't be around much longer. The tickets are there if you just know where to look. But don't ask me where the message board was, because I honestly don't remember.

In looking for tickets, don't just stay on the Strip. Often, I have found tickets by walking over to the Stadium early and out around early tailgaiters that park on the sidestreets around campus. You will often run into a would be seller that just wants to sell the thing so they can tailgate with his/her buddies. For families with extra tickets, selling them when they are not experienced to doing so on gameday is just as much of a hassle as it is for you looking for them that day. In my experience, the selling family has been relieved to not only get rid of the tickets but also get a chance to know who will be sitting next to them during the game.

This does not work 100% of the time but does work enough that it is part of my ticket hunt routine on the Strip. I arrive very early to the Strip for a game, but it is just a necessity if I want to increase my chances of not only getting in the game but also at an affordable price. Having to buy from scalpers/families on gameday for the last 10 years, I have never missed the opening kickoff.

One final recommendation is to walk around and listen to other ticket transactions to know what different seating sections are going for before you buy. Sometimes you can jump in on a good deal from listening to another negotiation break down.

CC:

The only reason dealers can get away with that kind of crap is because some rich idiots are too lazy (or stupid) to get them for a reasonable price. I had tickets last year, but when company came into town, we were always able to get tickets for less than a hundred bucks. For example: I distinctly remember a guy in front of Copper Cellar with UF tickets for $65. Don't let the idea of not having them in your hand before you get to campus scare you into blowing hundreds of dollars. Get there early and look around -- THEY ARE EVERYWHERE.

Since I drive from Atlanta, I always just tape a sign with my cell phone number to the back window. I've never made it all the way to Knoxville without having reasonably priced tiks, many times at face.

The only time I went to a game and did not get in was 2003 UGA. For some reason, tickets were scarce that night. The lowest I saw all night was one for $85, and that was midway through the 2nd quarter!

My friends and I went back to O'Charley's to watch the rest of the game, and witnessed the infamous fumble on the TV there. Thank goodness tickets were high, otherwise I would have wasted good money on that crap.

I also have had good success on gridscape. I'm actually getting my season tickets from a guy who posted there last year. But as always, buyers beware when dealing over the internet.

Weird. I was walking down that main street (from which O'Charley's was on) to the Stadium and we got good seats for $65...another guy wanted $150

That's Cumberland Ave that O'Chuck's is on.

I will admit, we waited until about 30 minutes before kickoff to leave and go to the stadium that night. We waited too long, and tickets were pretty scarce by the time we got there.

I know this sounds crazy, but a buddy and I just bought 2 Florida tix for 9/17 on ebay for $125 a piece plus a little extra for shipping. I got them by paying the buy-it-now price. People have since then bid more than that for the UF game. By the way, the other guy is a Gator fan, so it should be an interesting trip. And, the tix are in the Vols' section.

I have been to a few games that tickets were running $100 or more, but most were Florida, Bama, or Auburn games. But most of the time, even if on a budget, you can get the tickets for a better price at the game than u can on eBay and/or other ticket sellers. You just have to be patient to get the bargains. Don't be afraid to make a much lower offer than the scalper is asking and you will be pleasantly surprised sometimes by the counter-offer. The only problems you may have are getting large numbers of seats together. A single ticket is easier to get than two together, 2 easier than 4, etc. No matter what, if you plan on going to multiple games, you will on average be able to buy tickets cheaper at the game. If you want a bargain, go to an away game. Foe example, when Peyton was playing, I bought tickets to see UCLA in the Rose Bowl for $10 bucks apiece, Arkansas in Fayettville for $20 bucks apiece, Georgia in Athens(IMO, Peyton's best game while at UT) for $25 each, and Bama(41-14) for $45 each, and bought em all at the game.
Don't let this stop you from asking everyone you meet, putting up notices you will buy tickets, etc., cause you can get alot of deals that way, too. Just be patient most of the time.
