ESPN.com: Mississippi Rebels Player Card

I sure am glad we don't have this guy any more. He wasn't impressive against Memphis last week, and Missouri is beating Ole Miss 17-0 late in the 2nd quarter today. I thought you guys said that Schaeffer was going to make these guys competitive!:lolabove:

Eh, he's been practicing and playing with them for what, a little over a month now?

Before everyone jumps off the bandwagon, its just one game. His supporting cast isn't one of the best in the league either.

I see that the excuses are starting to roll in now. After all, it couldn't be possible that the guy just isn't very good when he's playing against real competition. Hell, he hasn't even played against real competition yet this season. He's played Memphis and Missouri!

That Ole Miss team has some names now... BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Dexter McClester, etc...

It's a fact, not an excuse. He may suck all year, but I'll give him a chance to play the whole season before I make a call on whether or not he's worth a starting QB position.

Missouri isn't all that bad a team. They beat SC in a bowl game last year.

I do not think it is an excuse more of a fact. He has been in this offense for a little over a month. Most QBs have Spring practice, 2-days, fall practice. HE got maybe half of fall practice...

All of these "facts" were known at the time that many of the posters here were predicting that Schaeffer was going to turn Ole Miss into a competitive team in the SEC West. The problem is that the guy just isn't very good, yet a huge number of UT fans fell in love with the guy because he'll give you one run that's an impressive highlight per game. You guys are suffering from the Michael Vick effect. Highlight reels don't equal production! Despite all of his impressive runs at UT that all the Schaeffer fans want to talk about, the fact remains that the guy averaged just over 2 yards per carry at UT, and he's not an accurate passer.

And the Vols have no shot against Cal, the WRs don't have a clue what they're doing, blahblah, etc etc...

Are there really that many people that know what the heck they are talking about that thought that Brent Schaeffer was suddenly going to elevate Ole Miss that much? I think most people have Ole Miss maybe winning 6 or 7 games.

There was a thread a while back where a lot of UT fans were predicting that Schaeffer was going to turn Ole Miss around this year.

Is this compensation for your busted Cal game / Tennessee performance predictions 423? :detective:

There's also a thread asking whether Erik Ainge is going to be a Heisman finalist. I really don't think that many people seriously thought Schaeffer could elevate Ole Miss that much.

BTW - I moved this off the main board out of principle.

When you can't win an argument, change the subject.

Or go conspicuously absent when proven wrong on the field.

I gave my opinion/argument for Schaeffer. I'd like to see what he can do when he gets acclimated to a system and isn't being taken in and out of the game every other series.

I just looked and no, Schaeffer isn't lighting it up, but at the half he's got 97 yards passing and 48 yards rushing with a TD. That's not exactly failing miserably.

Some people definitely fell in love irrationally with Schaeffer's potential, but some people definitely want to see him fail at Ole Miss just to make themselves feel better about him leaving Tennessee.

Also, the Missouri game may be a better test than the game against UM. That game is a huge rivalry despite Ole Miss's domination of the W-L record. It's sort've like UT-UK- Memphis, even in years when they are dramatically weaker, consistently plays their best game of the year against the Rebels.

To make matters worse for the Rebs this year, Memphis has as good or better of a D than they did last year. Given how little time Schaeffer and his WRs had to work together, he's lucky he completed over 40%.

Personally, especially given the fact that it was his leadership late that saved the misfiring Rebs from defeat by what's arguably a better overall team, I'd say he did pretty well last week.

I'm not getting the Missouri game, and all I know about Mizzou is that they graduated last year's big-time QB, so I can't say anything about him this week yet- you can't judge 1 player with nothing but a score, especially a team with Ole Miss's current problems and historical talent for the big choke...

think of Cut being Schaeffer's QB coach...

also, Schaeffer has no weapons @ WR or TE @ Ole Piss.

Are you sure those aren't the overall stats from the last game he played? If not, they're really similar.

My bad . . . The stupid Rivals scoreboard shows the current game in progress score, but the stats are not updated.
