Piggybacking off of the 2024 schedule thread. I did not want to hijack the thread so I thought I would start another one. I have a few question I wanted Volnation's opinion on. What would be your preferred schedule set up for the league schedule breakdown of the 3-6-6 schedule but also when do we play the teams? For example Alabama will always be 3rd Saturday in October. What SEC team would you want to start conference play with. In the late 80's, we played Auburn first. When we started divisional play, we played UGA and we have been playing Florida first now for the last 25+ years. Also when you want to play the OCC Power 5 opponent? 1st week, 2nd week, at a neutral site or home/home series or play in November like we did Notre Dame in the 90's and Miami in the early 2000's. Here is my generic schedule I came up with

August/September
Week 1 Power 5 OCC
Week 2 cupcake
Week 3 Florida/Auburn
Week 4 Ole Miss/MSU

October Bye week between week 1/2 or 2/3
Week 1 UGA/LSU
Week 2 Oklahoma/Texas
Week 3 Alabama
Week 4 South Carolina/Mizzou (Halloween)

November
Week 1 cupcake Homecoming
Week 2 Texas A&M/Arkansas
Week 3 Kentucky (Saturday before Thanks..)
Week 4 Vandy

October will brutal as always but we would get a bye in there. Also, I would like to play a "black" team for Halloween to go with the orange and black color theme of the holiday. I also would like to play Kentucky again on Rivalry Saturday (Saturday before Thanksgiving) like we used to do and finish the season with our in state rival. So what does Volnation think.

That will be front end loaded and a soft landing in November (for the most part) like the old days.

I think a 6 week stretch like that from late September to late October is too difficult for any team. That would potentially be 3 CFP teams in a row. I’d prefer to move one of the heavy hitters like UGA to where it is now in November .

I'd structure it more this way, and for these reasons:

Goal 1: spread out the challenges
Goal 2: other than one tough challenge, craft September as a tune-up month
Goal 3: stay out of the hottest places in September (especially Florida, Louisiana, and Texas)
Goal 4: preserve the TSIO tradition
Goal 5: don't visit the same state twice a year (Bama at Neyland the years we play Auburn; A&M and Texas, as well as Ole Miss and Miss St, in opposing years)

September:
w1 - OOC Power 5
w2 - Vandy
w3 - UGa/Oklahoma
w4 - Kentucky

October:
w1 - South Carolina/Miss State
w2 - bye week
w3 - Bama
w4 - OOC cupcake #1
w5 - Ole Miss/Auburn

November:
w1 - Texas/A&M
w2 - OOC cupcake #2
w3 - Mizzou/Arkansas
w4 - LSU/Florida
