....most of the traditional college basketball powers have blue (or a form of blue) as their color......Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, North Carolina even UCLA. However red (or a shade of red) predominates with the college football behemoths.....Bama, Oklahoma, Ohio state.....:ermm:

looking at the top ten in basketball, 6 teams have blue, 4 teams have red. The only outlier is Texas... If you're thinking 6+4+1=11, Kansas cheats. They have red and blue.

The final rankings in football had 5 teams wearing red, 2 teams wearing blue, 2 teams wearing purple and one team wearing green and gold plus silver and plus black and white, but never red or blue that I'm aware of.

blue and red are by far the two most common school colors. There have been plenty of seasons dominated by "red" teams in basketball.

Most schools have historical context for their color schemes. I think the fact that many of the basketball powers wear blue and while the powers wear red in football is mostly a coincidence.

Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida, Miami, Tennessee, Auburn?, LSU, Penn State, Texas, UCLA?, Georgia Tech?, Clemson?, Washington?

13 total, 5 question marks

versus

Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Georgia?, Florida State, USC, Arkansas?, Texas A&M?

9 total, 3 question marks.

I don't think anyone can make an argument that there are teams that deserve to be in over any of these teams.

However if you go with 12 (the top 2 tiers) they would have to be:

Notre Dame, Michigan, Miami, Tennessee, Penn State, Texas, Florida

vs.

Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Nebraska, USC

7 to 5

But when you go to 6, it becomes

Notre Dame, Michigan, Texas

versus

Alabama, Oklahoma, and USC
3-3
and it's hard to reduce beyond this point.

So yeah, football has its share of red powers. But given the colors of sports teams in general , it is not that high of a percentage.

Basketball, on the other hand, is a little startling. The Big 5 are all Blue!

Louisville, St John's, Temple, Indiana, Utah, Cincinnati, St. Joe's, Arkansas, Western Kentucky and even Bradley have had excellent basketball programs in the past.

Of course, it doesn't compare to the historic giants -- Kansas and Arizona have the right idea.

Are you really playing the WKU card? Even Diddle wouldn't go there.
