Firing the head coach after both coordinators have been hired away...

Brilliant!

Chargers. :shakehead:

Not only that, there aren't really any good candidates left. The field got picked dry immediately this year.

I hear Saban is leaving Bama for the Chargers job....that's the word on the street

And these guys are favored for the SB next year??

I'd say they are the most talented team. Rivers will have a full year's experience next year, and they'll probably try to draft a good WR, of which there are plenty. Maybe with Schottenheimer gone they can win a playoff game.

Who are they going to get as their friggin' head coach? Don't they still need a defensive coordinator as well? Rivera maybe? Make a push for Cowher?

they can't get cowher without compensating the steelers (by retiring he cant coach this year unless the steelers "trade" him), my guess is they would insist on a high draft pick too. i think you're on the right track with rivera though. either way, the chargers are morons. AJ Smith (Chargers GM), is an idiot. He was the one that got Rivers and let Brees go on to lead the Saints to the NFC championship. This whole Marty thing makes bonehead move #2. Bringing in a bad coach can sink your franchise in a hurry. I have a feeling the Chargers are going to regress bigtime.

Was just watching on ESPNEWS and they said their entire coaching staff has been gutted. The coordinators that left apparently took their assistants, now the head coach is gone...

I guess it makes sense. Once the two coordinators and a bunch of other assistants left, they were going to be rebuilding the whole coaching staff anyway. You might as well start without a head coach who apparently can't work with your general manager.

Wow.

Maybe they are gonna let the players coach the team.

Phil Cowher is a Schottenheimer protege of sorts. So he won't even entertain the idea, at least according to guys like Chris Landry.

Norm Chow is one possibility as is Mike Singletary. Spanos really screwed things up by firing Marty so late in the game.

A.J. Smith and Buddy Nix (Chattanooga resident) have done an excellent job of bringing in talent. USC staff wouldn't have to leave sunny California.
