He must have been knocked out by the blast somehow....I don't remember the chutes coming out and he carried a lot of speed into the sand trap.

Another quality guy gone...RIP.

Scott signed a friend of mines hat at Madison County Raceway in Al. one night. He seemed like a heck of a guy.

Looking at it again...I saw a chute come out but the flames made it useless. his brake lines must have burned up or something. What I really want to know is why in the hell is there a wall at the end of the sand pit.

That's just stupid.

I didn't even see a sand trap...I think they just have a lot of asphalt. Hopefully this will bring about some changes in the end of track design...what a tragedy.

I agree. That sand trap is really small. And a wall on the other side is asinine. Nets maybe, but concrete????

that's really the first track i've ever seen with a concrete wall at the end. i'd like to take a better look at the track.

sad day for sure. one thing i hate to hear is the announcement that a driver has lost his life.

don't pay attention to any kind of car racing, but you always gotta hate when someone dies doing something to entertain everyone else.

It is awful to see. I would guess the NHRA is going to have to standardize the length and safety features of the shutdown areas.

supposedly the wall at the end of the strip was there because there's a highway or a road. there's a couple of amateur videos on youtube as well but i couldn't tell if there was a road down there or not.

I saw the video also and it's horrifying to say the least. My thoughts and prayers are with Scott Kalitta's family and friends.
