Core is and always will be a top five album for me. Along with it I'll throw in Ten, Ready to Die, Under the Table and Dreaming, and the Alice in Chains MTV Unplugged album.
Incredibly sad news!

I'm glad I got to see them in 2011 when STP briefly reunited. He sounded great that night. I saw him earlier this year with his new band The Walkabouts. He sounded ok but he looked rough and was really weird that night even for him.

I'm shocked he lived this long given how messed up he's been for so long. STP will always be one of my favorite bands, and I also really liked his work in Velvet Revolver.

pick a song and sing a yellow nectarine
take a bath, I'll drink the water that you leave
if you should die before me
ask if you can bring a friend
pick a flower, hold your breath
and drift away...

STP's first 2 albums are pure awesome. Their 3rd is where the cracks started to show, and when Weiland's addiction was apparently hitting it's stride. It's not a great album start to finish, but it has some great songs. And even though the song's lyrics make no sense and Weiland I think admitted he wrote the song under heavy influence, "Trippin' On A Hole in a Paper Heart" is probably my favorite STP song.

Their 4th album is actually pretty good and underrated a tad, and their 5th was...eh...ok. Their last album felt like a farewell album, which I guess it turned out to be.

Both Velvet Revolver albums are awesome IMO.

Easily one of my top 5 90's rock bands - STP was a big part of growing up for a lot of us.

Some were just not meant long for this world; IMO, Scott had been "playing with house money" for awhile now.

RIP

He's been a favorite in the Celebrity Death Pool for a good 15 years at least.

What an amazing voice and artist. Can't fathom my teenage years without STP. So many great songs. Core is one of the greatest albums made in the 90s and of all time. RIP

He was supposed to be a huge jerk and a junkie, but I'm still really sorry that he passed. I really wish he could have gotten his act together as he was super talented.

I listened to both Velvet Revolver albums over the weekend; man I had forgotten how great they both were. It's a shame the second one only had a fraction of the success of the first one, and it's strange to me that it sold poorly because I thought the second one overall was an improvement. I'm pretty sure that helped lead to the break up of VR, well....that and Weiland had a problem with not breaking up with bands.

Slither is such a kick-arse song; fully embodies the of the best of GNR and STP in one song.

Man, it's so sad that these talented and creative guys get so messed up into drugs and die early. STP will forever remain in the soundtrack of my glory days.

Might have been timing. Spotify and similar services were growing rapidly in that time frame. The music consumer business model has been changing away from CDs and downloads to streaming and subscriptions.
