General Observations...
The crowd was better than I expected it to be, and for the first 6 innings or so the weather was perfect, got chilly later but not too bad.
There were 5 scouts there, radar guns and stop watches in hand. I sat behind them about 3 rows and peaked at the guns when in use.
Owenby hit in the low 90's and I saw one pitch clock at what I thought was 95. He gave up three hits I believe. He also had a bad throw over to 1B that moved a runner from 1B to 3B. His second and third innings were much better, unfortunately the scouts weren't using their guns for those innings. Other than the rocky start, he looked great!
Hunter Martin came on to pitch in the fourth, looked like he was hitting mid eighties, think I saw 84, 86 for example. He had at least 4 K's in his 3 innings of work. looked pretty solid.
Serrano came up in the 7th and the radar guns came out in force. What follows is the MPH of all but his last pitch of the inning.
89, 92, 91, 83, 82, 93, 91, 91, 92, 9?, 9?....it was a three up, three down inning.
As was mentioned, he had a rough go of it in the 8th, he walked the lead off batter, K's the next, next batter HBP, K's the next. So with 2 on and 2 outs he gives up an RBI single, a 2 run triple and an RBI double. He also threw a bad ball trying to pick at 1B too.
I missed the first batter Lee faced. However, he looked like he was really slinging it. Maybe because I was on the 3rd base side at that point and not behind the plate, but he looked like he was throwing harder than anyone, of course by then, the scouts were packed up as best i could tell. Closed it out 3 up 3 down.
Price looked great at the plate, not sure of his final line, but he had two singles and a home run.
The Maggio kid is big, hard to believe he's a frosh. Got work to do at the plate, he drew a walk and got K'd twice, he also had an E playing 1B.
Schultz looked good behind the plate, he had a nice pick off as well. Don't have his numbers, but I know he had at least one single, and he ground into a dbl play once.
AJ had a solid day, a nice SAC bunt. I noticed the scouts seemed to pay attention to him when he was at bat. He got picked off trying to steal second once.
As mentioned, Houser put one over the wall. In addition, Youngblood, Bily, Lance and Wormsley got into the game late.
Be glad to discuss if folks have questions.
Overall, the team looked good and played with enthusiasm. GBO!
