My wife recently bought a laptop with an SSD drive, at my suggestion, as I love my Lenovo laptop with a 256GB SSD.

She is wanting more storage and we want to add another 256GB SD storage. This is for photos, large Excel files,...she saves everything. Looking on Amazon most SD cards talk about photos and songs. Can you transfer MS Office files, as well? Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you.

Yes, anything you can put on a hard drive you can put on an SD card. Pretty reasonable up to about 256 GB. USB flash drives are another option as well but start getting more expensive above 128 GB. Above 256 GB the best bang for the buck will be an external USB hard drive.

Thank you! Any particular brand? It looks like a 256GB is around $40?

I'd think any of the major brands would be ok. San Disk, Samsung, Lexar, PNY, Sony, Kingston, Micro Center. The micro SDs tend to be a little bit cheaper and work fine in a computer with an adapter which a lot of them come with. Around $40 sounds right.

Be very careful purchasing the cards from Amazon on price. They have a bunch of vendors that will hack the microSD cards so that they appear to have more memory than the card will support. I made that mistake.
The MicroSD can be formatted more than one way so make sure the unit you purchased is the format your computer supports, or that you can properly format.
The difference in $40 and $100 would not be worth my wife losing half her pictures, my pictures yes, her pictures no ;)

If you have google or amazon prime you have unlimited photo backup. I would not be storing photos on physical media only.
