Saw this on Saturday Down South website. Can this possibly be correct?

"Florida hasn't played a nonconference road game outside the state of Florida since 1991."

UF plays a nonconference road game every other year against an in-state school, which is how they've been able to do it.

However, having said that, there are other schools in this same situation (UGA and USCjr come to mind) who don't have streaks anything like this.

I mean I get that they play Florida State every year, but I would have thought they would play at least the occasional Louisiana Tech or Eastern Michigan. Still a cupcake but give your team a slight road game feel.
More often than every 30+ years or so. Goodness.

Cupcakes by definition are at home. It is weird though. I know they can do home and away with Miami too but it’s still weird.

They do, but why would Florida go to play at a school of Louisiana Tech’s or Eastern Michigan‘s size?

It’s been that long since they played an out of conference game located outside of the state, fully designated as the away team (ie, not a neutral site game)…not that they hadn’t played any out of conference schools located outside the state of Florida during that period of time.

Florida isn't really a school that has to travel out of state. they typically have recruited the majority of their class from Florida. And there are 2, now 3, P5 non-conference opponents in the state, so why travel?

The '24 recruits are different, so maybe they are trying to branch out with how much Florida is getting pillaged by other schools.

They do play schools like LA Tech or E Michigan, but they play them at home (like basically every other P5 school that plays those teams).

UF hasn't played an out-of-state, OOC road game in 30+ years because of the FSU rivalry. It isn't a bad excuse, but as I was saying UGA and USCjr are in the same position (i.e., they have an in-state OOC rivalry game) and don't have a streak anywhere close to this.

This statement excludes them playing neutral-site games, e.g. Florida vs Michigan, 2017 in Arlington, Texas.
