Which is of local interest because I've heard scuttlebutt for years that Payton tried to get in the mix to become University of Kentucky head coach before Rich Brooks was hired.

I heard scuttlebutt for years that Bill Parcells tried to get in the mix to become UK head coach, too, mainly from sources about as reliable as a highschool coach who knows somebody on Centre College's staff.

I had heard the Parcells rumors, too, and that it was a "done deal" before Jerry Jones came calling from Dallas. Interesting stuff to ponder what might have been.

I have some family in Kentucky and they are always talking about the Parcells thing. I just think that sounds ridiculous that he would have been considering UK. Is there any real evidence that any of that has any merit?
