Much like the football team, the basketball met preseason fan expectations, even though most feel like it was a disappointment because of glimmers of hope provided early on.

The greatest surprise was the emergence of an excellent inside game, both scoring and passing, by the vols. Something Tennessee has not had in decades. Still, the vols chose to try and live and die by the 3 ball.

This team had a lot of fight, much like Bruce pearls first year. However, what they lacked, was the ability to quickly blow the game wide open or make a quick comeback. We were the tortise this year.

Now, time for martin to pull together some recruits who fit his mold for a team. Role players, defenders, athletes, whatever he wants to build his team.

Our main threat in the backcourt can't be our pg. That's not a healthy option.

Again, we are who we thought we were. Don't kid yourself. But much like football we lost to an inferior opponent and its embarrassing.

Go pull for Pat and the girls. We are seeing the end of a legendary era.

You had it 100% correct till the second to last sentence.

It wasn't embarrassing at all. Just a tough loss.

Lost to a good team that won 25 games, with our best player not being at 100%. I'm really not sure how that is embarrassing.

There is a difference between meeting\surpassing Pre-season expectations and meeting\surpassing expectations you set on a team throughout the development of a season.

The OP said that both our football and basketball teams met expectations. Surprised you agree with that. Don't think you really do. The football team was a miserable failure. Comparing the basketball team to them is a slap at their accomplishments this year.

MTSU is a good program. Well coached. I dont understand why everyone is flipping their lids.

Sure, we laid down. Got up 10 and gave up. These guys didnt take this team seriously and it bit them in the ass. All there is to it.

IMO we got whipped all game long

Their starters had to sit a substantial amount of time on the bench with multiple fouls and it was the only reason we didn't get run out of the gym

They more than exceeded my expectations for them this year. I was disappointed in last night's result, but I am still proud of this team. Hopefully having CCM's system in for a full year will propel us in the right direction for next season.

Nah. We got whipped until they got their head out of their ass just to put it right back in with about 7 minutes left.

You could just tell MTSU wanted it more.

I was content and just expected to be entertained this year with no illusions of championships or post season tourney invitations. I actually had lower expectations for the program believing that our BB program is going into a period of mediocrity again. I don't believe that latter is likely now, but am under no illusion that next year will be a championship year either, but I do expect there to be improvement. All of the players, except for Tatum and Swiper will be back with more maturity and experience. Hopefully some of the newcomers can add some dimensions needed to climb to the top again.

i hate to burst your bubble people but you have to look at this from a different angle. One the days of the mid major programs being mid major is over. Until they do something about this one and done crap we have to except the fact that the big boys and the little boys all can play. As far as what happened last night. Well it comes down to the last couple of years. Under Bruce our guys never played defense. We tried to out score the other team. And this stupid rocky top pilot league hasn't helped none either. Mr. Mcrae thinks because he layed 40 plus against our non playing defensive minded jelly for toughness guys that he could be a go to guy in the sec without putting in the work in the weight room and on the little things like ball handling. Now that the off season is here i can't wait for the hell to begin for this team. The old Purdue way of doing things is going to make this team so much better. You all can cry now. But im telling you give Coach the off season to run this team through the grinder. They will puke. They will beg for mercy. But we will not be out toughed next year. GBO.

I agree. I think an off season under Martin will do wonders for this team. However, I do also believe we need someone who is a consistent outside shooter. I'm not sure that anyone can coach that.

Kermit has a good team in the Boro. The big surprise to me was that they didn't win the Sun Belt tourny. MTSU Getting upset by Ark State is a bigger shocker than us losing to MTSU.

MTSU is a very good team. I didn't say anything about this game though. I was referring to the OP's "just like the football team" comment.

I did not think he said that about the football team, maybe he did.

But I could be wrong about that.

MTSU is a 27-win team. That loss is nowhere near the level of embarrassment of the UK football loss.
