UT Fans! In gearing up for the coming season I got the opportunity to hangout with some UT family friends this weekend on their boat.

Chip Rhome, former UT kicker ('08-'12), is captaining the Rhomen Empire in Tarpon Springs, FL right now. We had an amazing weekend talking UT football, recruiting and lots of fishing. It was great catching up and prepping for the upcoming season. I'm pumped now, and can't wait!

If you are ever down in the Tampa area look him up. He would love to see and talk to UT fans!

Completely awesome.

But on a serious note, you should only go fishing with former UT players. When megalodon arrives, they are the only ones strong enough to protect you.

A great white was caught neat Clearwater this past March. I've never heard of great whites in that part of the gulf.

That's surprising, never heard one in this area. Now we have giant hammerheads, tigers, and bulls roaming around here :)

I was out at my brother's house on Siesta Key 2 Falls ago and this guy in a canoe had dropped his line just beyond the shelf and caught a hammerhead. He paddled back in, set up shop on the beach and reeled it in for about an hour. It was pretty cool.

They've changed their migratory paths to escape the Megalodon.

That's the only logical answer.

Ive never understood the obsession with Snook personally. Perhaps because the season is short and the limits are strict it is almost like the forbidden fruit. It's a fairly bland fish to eat as well. I'd prefer that grouper he has there, snapper, or dolphin.

Chip Rhome has the right idea though. If you can't make it to the next level in football, do the next best thing and be a charter captain.

Haha I wouldn't want to be in a canoe and catch a large hammerhead, that's for sure.

Some teens caught a huge sawfish in the channel on Sanibel the other day as well. Something you don't see everyday. There's some big critters down there.

It's the fight, not the food with snook.

He probably just put the bait out with the canoe or kayak, that way you can get it close to or past the shelf, its the new thing for those shoreline fisherman, it's actually pretty effective. Reel em in on the shoreline... Not great for the swimmers lol.

That makes sense. I read it as the shark took the bait while he was still in the canoe out there. My dad caught an 7 1/2 ft tarpon a few years back in a little 8 ft boat. Not a fun time for him.

Hahaha, yea, it can get a little sketchy when the fish is as big or bigger than the boat. Did you hear about that guy in Hawaii who caught a huge tuna and his little skiff capsized? The line wrapped around his leg and he went for a ride.

Small world. Make sure and ask Chip how the Sanibel Lighthouse job has gone and if he met any Vols down that way.
