The Southeastern Conference has altered the format of its annual baseball tournament, SEC Commissioner Mike Slive announced today. This will mark the first major change to the event's format since 1996.

I think this is better, Raleigh sure would have liked it better.

The conference has added two more teams and that's the reason they added to more tournament teams. Raleigh would have continued to be in the bottom four teams of the SEC and therefore would have still missed out ... IMO.

When I first heard this I thought it would be for when the conference had 14, but from the looks of the article it will start this season. They better make it this year being that only two will be left out this year.

I would guess the last weekend of the season will be moved up another day to a wed/thur/Fri series. Anybody know if that will be the case? If not there will be a lot of pitching that won't see much action that last weekend.

I would almost rather not have the tournament than have it last 6 days.

The softball tournament is single elimination. It does mean the best team is the winner but at least it's done in a few days.

My guess, the weekend starters for any team will not be seen until Thursday (except for a desperate #9 or #10 team)

I actually miss the days of the region tourneys played at school fields on a rotation.

But the SEC's sole purpose now is to support the third world state of Alabama and give every opportunity for Bama to play home games at "neutral" fields. Why the SEC office stays in Birmingham with the embarrassing behavior of Alabama fans at SEC events is beyond me. (See SEC football media days)

You think the SEC office is biased towards the University of Alabama? That's crazy.

The Tournament is remaining in Hoover because the only other serious bidder was Memphis, and they couldn't offer the things Hoover does. Example: They suggested RV parking over a mile away from the stadium.

Why does the SEC stay in Birmingham? Because moving would be asking 60+ employees to either uproot their lives or give up their jobs. That makes zero sense. If the league had moved the office in 1992 when they had 7 employees, that's one thing, but it's virtually impossible now.

The fact that the SEC continues to hold events in Alabama (especially the SEC media days) that often turn into poorly run, and embarrassing encounters with media wearing crimson garb; rednecks heckling in the hall, and ambulance chasing attorneys serving summons proves that the SEC's priorities are screwed up.

The stadium, parking, and fringe crowd at Hoover justify rotating the event. Only Memphis bid because the SEC has made it clear in past bidding cycles that only one city has a chance.

Other cities have expressed clear interest in the past and no longer wish to waste their time.

The ugly concrete stadium located in a traffic bottleneck no longer works (except for Auburn/Alabama fans)

I can name more than 10 cities that would be better hosts. A few being Chattanooga, Atlanta, Jackson (MS), Memphis, Nashville, Mobile, New Orleans, St. Louis, Louisville, Jacksonville, Sevierville, and Greenville (SC)

The SEC will not move the event because they are Alabama-centric. So all the fans must come to the Armpit of the South to see the most backward people of the south act like asses over and over again.

I woul love for Nashville to host the SECT, if they would ever build that new minor league park that's been talked forever.
