Has anything been said about this anywhere? I have seen nothing. It's all been about football, naturally. I wonder if the bottom two teams will simply be left out, or if they'll add a morning session to the first day, or if they'll start the event a day earlier.

I definitely don't want the Big East's dumb (IMO) set-up of teams getting double-byes, so that some teams need to win five games, and others need just three wins.

If it were up to me, either have only two teams get a bye, or drop the bottom two teams.

Only thing I still know is we eliminated the basketball divisions

I'd say drop the bottom two teams, but then Georgia made that insane run in 2008, so I don't really want to see that happen.

Probably going to see two teams get a bye.

I don't see it happening, but they could start at 9AM and play six consecutive games in one long session. Perhaps let people come and go with their stub. 9, 1130, 2, 430, 7, 930. I like it.

The Big East used to drop its bottom teams and have a 12-team event, but coaches complained that it created a firing stick called, 'didn't even make the conference tourney.'

Imagine missing the conference tournament entirely.

It would really be a downer to buy the tournament package only for the Vols to miss it.

Stupid to drop teams. That's the whole point of the tourney. Eliminate two byes.

They'll probably start the tourney with a Wednesday night session. That actually would be the next-best place to be, if you don't have a bye, because you'd get Thursday off. 3 vs 14 and 4 vs 13 on Wednesday night. 5 vs 12 and 8 vs 9 on Thursday afternoon. 6 vs 11 and 7 vs 10 on Thursday night. 1 vs 8/9 and 4/13 vs 5/12 on Friday afternoon. 2 vs 7/10 and 3/14 vs 6/11 on Friday night.

It creates the possibility of one of the two worst teams winning on Wednesday, sitting out on Thursday, and then getting to play on Friday against a team that played on Thursday. But, you have to give the Wednesday advantage to the 3 and 4 seeds.

Interesting. I would imagine 2 byes and hope they don't drop the bottom teams.

You could just leave the format as is except have two play-in games on a Tuesday night. 11 vs 14 and 12 vs 13 for the last two seeds in the regular (current) format. They could be nuetral court or even play at the lower seeded teams home court. That way everybody has at least a chance to compete without screwing up a good thing.

I like that but it's still almost like not making the tournament if you aint playing in atlanta with the other teams. It still gives everyone a chance though.

I don't see the need to have a separate play-in game. All 14 teams should get it on at the tournament.

There is no need for play-in games unless you want to keep a 4 day tournament format as it exists currently. Otherwise you are looking at 5 days OR a six game first day which would have several games in low TV rating time slots. Honestly I don't care one way or the other. I'm pretty sure what nets the conference the most dollars will be what drives the format.

I would think the 11 and 12 would be at home in that scenario. I guess this can be defined more than one way. 11 is less than 14, but I am used to the lower number being referred to as a "higher" seed.

They would probably make more concession sales with the 6-game session, because a lot of people would hang out all day and keep eating and drinking, instead of tailgating outside in between sessions like people do now.

But, total TV ratings would probably be better with the 3-14 and 4-13 Wednesday night session that I suggested, because the 3 and 4 seeds would often be teams that people are interested in watching on TV, especially that early in the week. In a given year, UK will be seeded there, and then the tournament would get an extra UK game that they would otherwise not have.
