Ready for SEC/Big East hoops? Didn't think so | When You're Strange | GoVolsXtra.com

I think Strange is right that the current format stinks.

I also think that if we matched up the conferences best v. best down to worst v. worst, the Big East would slaughter the SEC.

I wonder how the Big Ten ACC Challenge deal is scheduled. If you could pick it each year as opposed to multiple years in advance like football, you could sacrifice your top game and move every down like they do with tennis seeding sometimes.

The only way I could see the SEC beating the Big East is if we took the top 3 Big East teams and let them play Arkansas, Auburn and Georgia and then played our best against their 4th on down. I am still not sure we could win, but we would have a chance.

What????? You mean you don't think we would dominate the Big East head to head? I'm truly shocked!!

If your looking for a "conference win" where the SEC wins outright, then the chances are indeed slim to none. The format you suggest might work, but its not feasible in any way.

Myself, I think I would honestly rather see the Top 3 Big East teams against the Top 3 SEC teams. I would like to see the SEC come away with 3/3, or 2 out of 3 in those matchups. There is no sportswriter in this world who would put the SEC above the Big East, EVEN if the SEC were to win that challenge. They would continue to say that the Big East is still more complete top to bottom, and competes at a higher level. (which is true)

However, they would perhaps be inclined to say that the top teir of the SEC is equal to or better than the Big East, if they could pull 3/3 or 2/3 out of those games. This to me would be just as important than winning a conference challenge outright.

Sounds like you would just want to add a game then?

You are right that where we would get destroyed by the Big East is when you take teams 4-10 and put them against the same for us.

Who would be playing in the top 3 games?
UK
TN and
UF? Versus ?

It is sad that UGA has to play for us this year.

UGA/Ark combination is, as Hat would say, craptastic.

As for the matchups... I would like to see something like this:

UK vs. Syracuse

UT vs. Villanova

UF vs. West Virginia/Uconn

As for the reasons why and breakdown of each matchup, I will come back and do that later. I have a lunch appointment. Gotta run.

It's early. CBB is full of upsets anyway. We can't win? What are you on? UT and UK can beat anyone on any night. We both have the talent, it's just about hitting 3's and D, basically. That's the beauty of CBP's system- if we're hot and get some bounces, we can beat anyone. And pretty much any team can say that. Do any of you watch/play bball? Even in the Tourney, when no one overlooks anybody, great teams are upset by lesser teams that got hot. And all it takes is a couple of good players, which any team can get. Why do you think Vandy is competitive? Even small schools can do well with a star on the team. Unlike football, you only need to recruit a couple of talented kids a year. When I was at UT, I used to play pickup with Victor and Lee and some other guys. I occasionally got the better of them (not Lee, that guy could SHOOT!) and my team with no Vols won. Am I a better player? Not even close. But it's Bball. If my shot is falling, all of the sudden I'm pretty good. And if theirs doesn't? I win.

See, coaching is about limiting the impact of the fickle nature of shooting. There are several ways to do it, otherwise, we wouldn't see dynastic type programs out there.

Even after that huge win at Michigan State, I still say the Cuse eat Florida alive and kill whatever credibility they have. And I like those game. Nova guards would torch Maze / Goins to a crisp. I wouldn't want to see that!

Nova is a bad draw for us. We'd fare better with any of the others.
