SEC-Big East Invitational Format Change Next Year

They're going to step into the void left by the end of the PAC-Big 12 series. It's a good idea, as long as they match the teams by strengh and not randomly. UCONN-Kentucky and West Virginia-Tennessee make sense. Georgetown-Auburn and Florida-DePaul don't.

I hope Tennessee plays Syracuse next year. That would be a very good game, especially if it's at the Carrier Dome. All that orange would make people go :loco:

We played them in the Buzz years. Think they owned us both times.
Specifically remember a really close game that the refs let Louisville close out with ease. I remember Francisco Garcia stepping out of bounds towards the end and they didn't call it. Last we played the was a beatsown in the Sweet 16 3 years ago I believe.

I don't really care who we play but if I had my way we would play whoever in Knoxville instead of on the road.

I am pretty sure we played them 4 times. We lost the first 3 at the very end. We got blown out in the 4th one after Crump left the game injured. The game where UL stepped out of bounds, and they didn't give us the ball, was in Knoxville. I also remember the game at UL when they hit 3 3s in the final seconds and beat us by 1. They did the Reggie Miller play to erase a 6-pt lead, then Haislip scored, then they hit another 3. That one stung. I think we played at UL in 2001-02 and 2004-05, and played at UT two years in a row in between those games.

Watching that again literally made me sick to my stomach

I was at that game in the lower level behind the basket where they made those. All we had to do was get the ball inbounds. We lost a ton of games at the buzzer in 2001-02.

Good. I'm glad it is apparently taking more the form of the ACC/Big 10 Challenge. I don't know why it wasn't 12 teams to begin with. Come up with match ups based on seedings from the prior season and alternate home and away games.

That's what I think as well. I am all for playing tough teams on the road, but give me a game in TBA all day long, and twice on Sunday.

They should throw out the top 2 and bottom two of the big east to make it fair.

To me UCONN, Syracuse are the top 2 programs.

Kentucky-Georgetown
Tennessee- Louisville
Florida- Villanova
Vandy- Pitt
Miss state- West Virginia
Ole Miss- Marquette
South Carolina- Notre Dame
Arkansas- Cincinatti
LSU- St. Johns
Georgia- Providence
Alabama- Rutgers
Auburn- Seton Hall

Not very appealing, And i couldnt come up with any appealing matchups either

The only way to make a 12 game format work is to hand pick some of the matchups to make them notable matchups. Kentucky will draw against anyone. Tennessee at this point will too. the rest of the games would lack TV appeal without a big time team. Facing the best 4 vs the best 4 would lead to a very boring other eight games.
