Too bad Johnny Football can't share in that largesse since he's the one mostly responsible for Sumlin’s success at A&M.

JF will get his soon enough. For now, that cat is living the dream (fame, women, bright future.... women). Plus, you gotta give Sumlin his due- although you can't coach what Manziel did last year.

Sumlin is enjoying it...soon he wont have JF and it will be like when his UH team got blasted by USM a couple of years ago, just in every SEC game. Gotta have a great QB to do that system, sorta like Hal Mummy's old offence. I dont remember the kids name at Huston, but he set records. With Sumlin you have to wonder if its the old system vs player thing, but he has clearly found great QB's so far.

Yeah, it's not like Sumlin had Houston ranked in the top 5 or anything. I'm sure it's just that one player he's got.

You mean that year Houston went 13-1 and beat Penn State in the Cotton Bowl? Yeah, guy clearly can't coach.

Yea thats him. Got blasted in the cusa title game. He can coach, but with the two QBs he's had...One breaks ncaa passing records and opens him up the AnM job and now he starts there with the only freshman to win a heisman. Seems like he can coach, alright. But as long as he is getting those kinds of players, its going to be much easier on him. He can spot QB talent, and theres no questioning that! What happens if JF gets hurt after a couple of games or leaves and the next guy is a bust? All Im sayin...:whistling:

See I'm the other way around. I think it's Sumlin and his system that makes the QBs better than they might actually be. And I think he's gonna continue to be successful. Case Keenum hasn't been heard from since he left Sumlin, and personally I don't think Johnny Football will do much in the pros either.

And that loss to Southern Miss...it was a bad loss, I watched it. In fact it was a straight up beatdown! But it's not like Larry Fadora is some scrub coach. Just as Houston got Sumlin the A&M job, Southern Miss landed Fadora the UNC job.

One more thing...IMO it's not Sumlin's offense that will ensure him long term success in this league. It's the fact that he emphasizes excellent defense...unlike most offensive minded coaches.

texas a&m will be a force to be reckoned with as long as sumlin is there

This. And timing is key for them. They are hot as fire while Mack Brown's career is looking more and more like the end of Fulmer's. Poor fella, I like Mack. But A&M is about to have serious momentum in the state of Texas.

I think you raised a good secondary point and didn't elaborate on it. Fulmer's decline wasn't all his own doing, it was also the resurgence of programs like LSU, Bama, Florida and Georgia. The point is that he was successful while our biggest recruiting competition was down. Could aTm be enjoying similar benefits of its biggest traditional rival being down? I think the answer is yes just as I would suggest that Vanderbilt is capitalizing off of our downturn. Those sorts of bumps don't traditionally last.

Seems like you think Sumlin can't coach. He must be one of those "motivators" like they said Nolan Richardson was.
And a Hal Mumme comparison? :eek:lol:
