Some of you may or may not be aware, but Birmingham is considering building a dome. Speculation is that since SEC HQs are in Birmingham and Birmingham is an even more central location for travel than Atlanta, Slive might bring the SEC Championship Game back to Birmingham. Just curious what you guys think of that.

Capacity of stadium?

I think even if its bigger, Atl is a nice place, and is established itself as the location. I dont see a need to change.

I'm biased, but there is no doubt that Atlanta knows how to put on a good show. There's a reason that they are able to hold Super Bowls, Final Fours and the Olympics there.

I guess for alot of Vol fans it wouldnt make much difference, but I think many of the folks in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas might prefer it a little further west to shave about 2hrs off of their fan's travel.

I don't have anything against Birmingham. It's a nice city. I just think an event like that should be in a big time town like Atlanta or Orlando or New Orleans or Nashville.

I agree GAvol. Does Bham even have the kind of hotels and accomadations necessary for an event like this?

I don't think it's a matter of whether they could host the event. I'm sure they'd do fine. It's just that there are other places I'd personally rather go.

Birmingham just has a stigma about it. The only city of the cities you mentioned that is significantly larger than BHM is Atlanta. Nashville and New Orleans in particular are both quite similar in size to Birmingham. And yes, Birmingham does have the hotel accomodations.

Actually, Birmingham currently has a proposal for a 25-story Westin near the BJCC. Another hotel is also proposed near the BJCC that would be about 30-stories. But I can understand people not thinking Birmingham has much. It gets a bad rap.

Part of the BJCC Dome Entertainment District would be incorporated into the current BJCC District (seen in the foreground of the picture below).

Considered it, but it's more just a passion/interest than something I'd probably do for a living. Wouldnt mind doing it for a living though.

I went with ATL, But it wouldnt really matter all that much to me.

It really wouldnt hurt if there was more seating in the Dome, or any other venue the SECC would ever consider.

Blazer, I'm not sure the dome is going to happen anytime soon. Personally, I'd prefer a new outdoor venue on the NW side of southside that would seat maybe 40-45k and would be the new home for the Blazers. I have to really get motivated to drive over to Legion Field for a Blazer game. I think Louisville's stadium should be the blueprint for Birmingham.

BTW, Hackney has lost some weight. He is an awesome QB. Any word on how Dan Burke is doing? He and several other Blazers played for the local HS.

I dont like the idea of playing every regular season SEC game on grass, and then turning around and playing the CG on Turf.

I wish that they would play the CG in Nashville.

Herbstriet is very fond of Urban. He thinks Urban is a very good coach, and will do just fine in the SEC, unlike you guys :)

Why not play it in Nashville. Nashville is the most central location for the whole SEC.

Why should it always be in Atlanta?

If anything, it should be rotated between a half dozen of the best venues in the SEC's states.
