Hat's post in another thread got me thinking about this. I'm pretty sure we'll see quite a few new coaches over the next few years. Just wondering what everyone thinks about who stays and who will be gone soon.

All started last year as Saban/Meyer got Phil fired, and Saban sent Tubervile on his way at Auburn. Croom got canned for continuous mediocre results. I think Saban should finish off Miles in the next 3 years. Brooks looks like he's done getting creamed. Joker's tenure will also likely be short. Spurrier seems like he'll be done soon enough. I expect Lane to run Richt out at Georgia. Saban started the job on Meyer, and I think Kiffin beating him a few times will be all it takes to send Meyer out as well. I think Auburn fans will start to hate the Chizik hire in a few years, and I doubt he ever beats Saban.

Anyone else to add? And do you guys think any of those guys survive?

To be fair to Auburn and Chizik, I think he might be a good fit there. I hate it when people assume that kiffin sucks without knowing anything about him even though 99.9 percent of Tennessee fans love him. I think Auburn fans feel good about Chizik and their staff so I would like to see what he can do in the next 2 to 3 years. They seem to be recruiting well and I think sometimes we dismiss coaches the same way we get mad at rival fans for doing to Kiffin.

I don't see much potential in a guy who made Iowa State worse. I think the talent Tubervile left was underrated. They had a bunch of good seasons before, and then one awful season after a failed offensive coordinator. It isn't like Tubervile ran the team into the ground for a long time before that. I just don't see much there.

yeah, I think you make a good point, and worth considering. Any success Chizik has will be connected to how long Mahlzan sticks around. Chizik is a defensive guy, and his defensive staff is not that impressive, and his defense was average at best this year. Their recruiting seems to be doing ok, so he may avoid being the train wreck everyone thought he was going to be. But I will be shocked to ever see him beat Saban and win a western div championship.

1) Mark Richt- On the hottest seat in the SEC. Probably gone after next season.
2) Les Miles- Could be fired after next season. If not, likely gone after 2011 season.
3) Gene Chizik- Probably gone by 2011 as well. Recent recruiting success won't last.
4) Houston Nutt- Least likely of the four to be on the hot seat, but probably gone by 2012.

Just my two cents.

What's important to remember is that the rise of the SEC coincides with the increase in the quality of coaching through the entire conference.

If wholesale changes end up being made, it's entirely possible that this conference could look like the Big 10 in a short period of time. As long as UT becomes the Ohio State of the conference (minus the humiliating annual ass-kickings in bowl games and other big games), I'm fine with that.

I doubt teams like LSU drop to the level of Wisconsin. I find it hard to imagine the overall talent of the SEC being that bad.

Should CLK be on the list? How long do you guys think CLK will be the HC at Tennessee? What does he have to accomplish in 3-5 years to keep his job at UT? If he's offered an NFL HC job (e.g., Tampa) would he bolt?

I don't think he wants to spend his entire career in Knoxville.

And I don't think he should... as long as he leaves the team in a better shape than he found it. I'll give him 5-6 more years. Less if he wins a NCG before that (i.e. in 4 years).

I don't know for sure if he liked being an NFL coach more (he loves recruiting), but he's extremely competitive and will want to probe himself against the very best. I thought he was a good coach in a bad situation at Oakland.

I am ok with the Cheez at Auburn. He took a 5-0 team and turned it into a 1-5 at the end of the season. Trooper will also pull a boner and get them on probation.

Anyone else hearing Saban to the Cowboys for $10 mil per year after the bowl game?
