Watching this SEC History all afternoon and into the evening has been disappointing to say the least. There 8 parts covering each decade. They did give credit to the Neyland Years. However, once the show move into the 60’s there was no mention of the Dickey years. Only Bear, LSU, Auburn, and Archie at Ole Miss. Same for the 70’s except a brief mention of Condredge. However didn’t expect much on Tennessee in the 70’s since there were no championships in that decade. Moving on to the 80’s no mention of Johnny’s teams beating No1 Auburnl, Bama, Miami or winning SEC championships. Ridiculous and obvious snub by ESPN. All about Bear last years, Pat Dye, and Herschel. Just a ridiculous and obvious snub of the Vols history ! Should have expected it though considering it’s ESPN.

Our history is nothing to write home about since the sport integrated other than the 90's (really 89 to 01'). I haven't seen the show, but I'm sure in the 90's we'll get plenty of press and we'll deserve it.

Dickey had a good run in the short time he was was here beat Bear a couple of times and won the SEC twice I think.

He was gone from here before the sport integrated though. Some teams obviously were always integrated but I think 1972 was the first year everyone was.

Was the show produced by Chris Fowler?

Yeah, I was watching that all day as well. I love SEC history and had seen parts of that before, but yes, the overall snubbing of Tennessee’s presence in the SEC as one of the premier teams was quite overt.

If a coach's history, any coach's history, overlaps with Bear Bryant, you know which coach they're going to talk about. Dickey actually beat Bear 3 times and had a winning record against him (3-2-1).

Tennessee has only been a "premier" SEC team during the Neyland era and the first half of the Fulmer era, and Tennessee wasn't even the best SEC program during the first half of the Fulmer era (UF was).

I haven't seen the doc, but those are really the only 2 eras where Tennessee should be talked about a lot relative to other programs.

Then he made the big mistake in leaving us for Florida.

Maybe someone around at the time can shed more light, but that has always seemed like one of the more shocking coaching career decisions. I know he was a UF alum and grew up in Gainesville, but they just were not a good program at the time, and he was coming off a really nice run at UT.

Yes I asked my dad one time cause he was a student at UT during the Dickey years and he said it probaly was just that mama came calling and he felt he had to answer and take the job. He was a young coach too I think he was 37 when left us for Florida. Then of course he came back in the mid 80’s to be our AD and he was a really good AD maybe the best we have ever had at least for as the football program was concerned we won 5 SEC titles and a national title during his tenure.

My dad is an old head and many fans considered it to be beyond a head scratcher. He left Battle a loaded team right in his lap. He was of the opinion that UT would have at least won multiple SEC titles had he not left for UF. Of course, his time there was far from a success.

I can see someone making that move today if they were an alum because UF is a great program and honestly has some recruiting advantages over Tennessee. In 1970? It's harder to believe. I mean, that place really was kind of a backwater in those days, and as a program they hadn't won any kind of a championship to speak of.

My dad thought the same thing he thought Dickey was a great coach and hated he left us for Florida when he had us rolling.

I was a soph then. We just came off the Archie Who game- where Steve Kiner ignited Ole Miss by describing Archie Manning as playing like a mule the year before. They destroyed us. Then rumors about the UF job started wk of the Gator Bowl. No one believed he would lv us for lowly Florida. TN played awful and Dickey simply walked across the field after the game to accept the Head Coach job at UF. Our team suspected it and played like it. Easy to see why we played awful. We had Kiner and Hacksaw Reynolds on D. Can't remember who was on O. But we should not have lost!

These 60 teams break away from NCAA rules in football only . In the the End game a Sweet 16 version will be playoff .
NCAA keeps their Basketball tourney. Everybody wins.

Many time recorded history is only in the mind of the author. That is why I seldom read or watch ”history” created by sports writers or the media.

Crazy seeing how much farther ahead we and Florida were in the 90s compared to the entire league
