SEC college football Power Rankings: Week 8 - ESPN

HOT

Marquez North's catch: In each of his last two games, the Tennessee freshman receiver has made fabulous catches. He had a toe-tapping 19-yard touchdown catch against Georgia on Oct. 5 and followed that up with the play of the game (and maybe the catch of the year) in Tennessee’s 23-21 win over South Carolina. On third-and-10, North pulled in a 39-yard heave from Justin Worley with his left hand as he was falling backward to keep the Vols’ game-winning drive alive.

Catch of the year? What do you guys think, it is hard to argue...

Definitely the catch of the year for the Vols. That might be the catch that defines the Butch Jones era along with the Palardy kick.

IMO it is, but my opinion is slightly biased. Most seem to think its #2 behind the kid at stanford but North's catch did more for the program than any other catch in the last decade.

The stanford catch will be forgotten in a few weeks. North's catch will go down as the turning point.

Most impressive thing about North's catch was the guy defending him made a great defensive play on the ball. It was great concentration on the part of Marquez to pull it in for the catch.
I was excited when we got him, but Marquez North is so much better than advertised and gets better each game.

Did Hunter, Rogers or Patterson have a catch that was that good?

I believe Justin had a nice one handed catch for a touchdown and derrick had a catch between two defenders that was pretty awesome. His helmet came off on the hit and he was just sitting in the endzone smiling. Haha

Rogers' catch against Vandy in 2011 was exceptional. Helped us win that game.

Hunter came up big, late in the Troy game.

But the fact I'm hunting for big catches and coming up with games against Troy and Vandy tells you something...

Catching the ball is no different against bama as it is a middle school team. An amazing catch is always amazing

Rogers against Vandy in 11' was a just as good in quality and meaning.

Hunter made some great catches as well.

What Patterson did once he caught the ball was way more memorable.

All in all i think North can be as good and maybe more productive as all three. He's a stud just like they were.

Da'Rick, yes. One handed catch of a ball that was already past his shoulder and headed out of the end zone. In another game, he caught a pass while sandwiched by two defenders. The impact knocked off his helmet, and at least one (possibly both) defenders were injured from the collision with DR.

Now, to answer the catch of the year for North. No, it doesn't rate that right now. BUT BUT BUT, if we beat Bama and/or win out the season even if we lose to Bama, that catch will indeed be enshrined as 'The Catch" that marked the start of Tennessee's return as a powerhouse program.

From ESPN's SEC Hot and Not weekly release

EDIT: My bad, merged.

NOT

South Carolina in the fourth quarter: The fourth quarter hasn’t been kind to the Gamecocks this season, and their late woes caught up to them in their 23-21 loss at Tennessee. They managed just 12 total yards in the fourth quarter against the Vols and seemed to forget that Mike Davis, the SEC’s leading rusher, was on the field.
