11. Tennessee: Considering how the Volunteers lost punter/kicker Michael Palardy (third in SEC with 44.5 yards per punt and 14-for-17 on field goals), it’s a good thing that they signed top kicking prospect and Under Armour All-American Aaron Medley. Tennessee has return man Devrin Young (25.9 ypr on kickoffs and 7.9 on punts) and backup punt return man Jacob Carter (9.3 ypr) back, as well.

Not really. We have no proven kickers. And have you seen our punt coverage the last few years?

Losing Palardy = Bad
Gaining a TON of talent who can "ramp up" on special teams = good potential

I would have placed us more like 6-7

Seems like we could have piled all positions into 1 and gave us a 10.

We will have good athletes on our Kick off and Punt return this year. Our special teams will be our strong spot this year

We will win a game this year with our special teams unit. A last second field goal against Georgia, or a punt return for a TD against Ole miss.

Just wait. They'll be much improved this year.

Maybe not kicking (although Medley will do well), but kick coverage will tremendously improved with this past class.

Gotta love southern football fans. They will cheer for their team even at a wedding in the middle of offseason :yahoo:

This doesn't, either.

Stumbled and fumbled! Clint went through a lot of therapy for years after the fumble. It kinda did on number on his mental health. At least the entire special teams got to share the embarrassment on that punt return and no one was talking championship for either team

True. We both stink, currently.

Didn't Fulmer have Stoerner on scholarship? Just no room for him on the Vol roster. :lolabove:

lol.. terrible. Poor guy, hopefully he never sees this thread.

Actually, Hog fans were vicious enough about "the fumble" that he probably can take about anything. Still to this day, there has been no greater turnover in program history. The Reggie Fish muffed punt in the 2006 SEC Championship is a close second but the stumble and fumble still takes the cake.

#41 Sapp really should have taken this play off...Not only did he clumsily knock down his own teammate from behind who was in the best position to make the tackle but then whiffed on Adams twice himself...This play epitomizes the Dooley years in a nutshell.

People act like Stoerner just dropped back, stumbled on his own and just laid the ball on the ground for no reason. The kid tripped on the foot of his OL that had just been manhandled and pushed into the backfield by Billy Ratliffe. I guess he could've "wrapped up the football with 2 hands" but that wouldn't exactly have been the normal thing for a QB to do. He tried to regain his balance and dropped the ball.

IMHO, people shouldn't blame Stoerner for that play.....they should blame the OL that got blown up and then tripped Stoerner. Or maybe they could blame Arkansas' defense for subsequently getting the ball shoved down their throats and allowing a td so quickly and easily.

No, but fortunately he had Billy Ratliffe on scholly....the guy that blew up the O lineman that tripped Stoerner causing him to drop the ball.

That O-lineman was named Brandon Burlsworth (the Drew Carey look a like) who died in a car accident the next spring, shortly after being drafted by the Colts. Very sad...feels better to just blame Stoerner (though if the safety off the bad snap to the punter had been officiated correctly Tenn wouldn't have needed that fumble).
