1. Alabama (LW: Same)- If you are going to find a positive for Alabama after a decent win against VT, then it's Christion Jones. Three touchdowns in three different ways? That's impressive. However, Alabama had 11 first downs, 6-17 on third downs, 2.5 yards per rush, and 204 total yards. I mean, that's one of the worst offensive performance during Nick Saban's tenure. Oh, and Bama gave up 153 yards running against a mediocre VT offense. It's game one, but there might be problems.
2. South Carolina (LW: Same)- I thought USCe had a really solid game against a decent UNC team. Larry Fedora can coach. The defense looked solid, the offense was in full sync, and I was really impressed with Connor Shaw. He looks better. If Shaq Roland is for real, watch out for the Gamecocks. They look like a legitimate top ten team.
3. LSU (LW: 5th)- Say what you want, but LSU put up 37 points against a Gary Patterson coached defense. That's pretty impressive, no? Mettenberger didn't have the best game, but he was solid, and LSU ran the ball well. The D had a nice game also, giving up less than 300 yards.
4. Texas A&M (LW: Same)- TAMU's D is sketchy right now, but I just want to say this (UNPOPULAR OPINION ALERT). I thought Johnny Manziel's antics were hilarious and great. If he's going to be a villain this year, then I totally approve. He did take it too far with the 15 yard penalty, but if he keeps fake signing his name all season, then I totally approve. Anyways, carry on.
5. Georgia (LW: 3rd)- People will laugh at Georgia for losing a close one week one, but I don't think it's that bad of a loss. It will be tough sledding against South Carolina however. We knew the D was going to struggle, but what happened with the offensive line? They looked brand new, not with four returning starters. Concerning.
6. Florida (LW: Same)- It was a ho-hum victory for Florida. Nothing spectacular, nothing great. The D did look good however. Mack Brown gave UF a great performance and gives them stability in the backfield. I want to see how their D does next week against Miami.
7. Ole Miss- (LW: Same)- If not for a damn miracle, Ole Miss would have blown a 10-0 lead and given up 70 yards in two plays having a 4th and 18. It could have been ugly. But Jeff Scott is a man's man. Their D better get fixed, or they are going to struggle all year. I was not impressed with their secondary.
8. Arkansas (LW: Same)- 292 yards rushing, Brandon Allen was very, very good in his debut, and the D stopped the run game cold against Louisiana-Lafayette. Arkansas is going to a bowl game this year and if they continue to run the ball well, they will upset someone. I'm concerned about depth on D however.
9. Tennessee (LW: 10th)- It was nothing to brag about, but UT had a nice win. They ran the ball better than they have in a while, Justin Worley played game manager, and the D looked like they had a semblance of what they are doing. The O-Line is really good. Can the secondary hold up? Probably not.
10. Auburn (LW: 12th)- I'm not really buying Auburn yet. Their D was average, and Nick Marshall struggled badly. They did run the ball well, and that will keep them in a couple games, but I'm not buying them going to a bowl yet. That back seven needs to shore up first.
11. Mississippi State (LW: 7th)- Geesh Dan Mullen. How bad does your offense have to be. That was just a horrible performance. They didn't run the ball, they didn't throw the ball, they couldn't stop the run. It could have been a lot worse. I know Russell ended up getting hurt, but they were doing nothing before either.
12. Vanderbilt (LW: 11th)- I thought they got lucky actually. Their offense is not that good, and Jordan Matthews isn't producing like that every week. I'm not buying Austyn Carta-Samuels, and I don't think their run game is there yet. Oh, and their D gave up 500 yards. It could get ugly.
13. Missouri (LW: 13th)- Easy game for Mizzou. Their offense was in sync this week. However, their first string D gave up two TD's in the first quarter and gave up close to 300 yards against a bad team. Like to see a little better consistency. We won't know about this team till October 5th against Vandy.
14. Kentucky (LW: 14th)- Poor Mark Stoops.
