This may get ugly, but I took the time last night and this morning to compile the stats for SEC games head-to-head, leaving out non-conference opponents to get a feel for a Team's overall ranking within the SEC.

For now, I'll just post UT's ranking in each category I've compiled so far.

Rushing Avg. - 12
Passing Avg. - 2
Total Offense Avg. - 9
Scoring Offense - 2
Avg. Defense Faced - 4.4
Rush Defense - 9
Pass Defense - 8
Total Defense Avg. - 9
Scoring Defense - 9
Avg. Offense Faced - 3.8
Net Punting - 3
Punt Returns - 1
KO Returns - 10
Turnover Margin - T2
Sacks - 9
Tackles For Loss - 4
Sacks Allowed - T3

Pass. Efficiency - 7
Pass. Efficiency Def. - 8

The Offense and Defense averages look bad, but noone in the SEC to this date has faced Avg. tougher offenses and defenses than UT. Even with the low rankings for Avg. Yards, UT is still 2nd in Scoring Offense. We could be worse off than having lost 2 very close games just by comparing stats, so I think that pays testament to the drive of this team.

I have a spreadsheet with all the stats on it, crosslinked to team pages, etc. It's not fully automatic updating once new stats are put in, but if anyone wants a copy of it, shoot me a PM. I'm an Excel rookie so I'm sure someone with more knowledge would be able to flesh it out even more now that the groundwork is laid.

After comparing our Offense and Defense Stats to the Average level of Defense/Offense Faced, our guys come out top of the heap in both at this point in time. FWIW, they've done a great job considering everything (running game notwithstanding!).

I'm going to work out Pass. Efficency and Pass Eff. Def. ratings later on cause that requires alot more entry.
sounds like you're doing a lot of hard work....why not just use the sec stats sheet?

Does it use SEC vs. SEC Teams only? :BANGHEAD2:

I just looked and found 2006 SEC Football but it uses all games played, not just SEC only games. Is there another one I'm missing?

We've probably played the toughest conference schedule to date, since we havent played Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Ole Miss or Miss State.

Georgia has probably been the easiest SEC team we've played so far.

Just taking Avg. stats into consideration, USC was the easiest team we've played.

Even with Vandy and Kentucky closing us out, we'll still more than likely have the toughest schedule based on SEC overall stats.

I could have sworn our overall offense was much better than 9th. It was 2nd a few weeks ago.

These stats are based only on head to head SEC games. Non-Conference game stats aren't figured in.

My pleasure, but I give some credit to Liper for bringing it up in another thread and motivating my lazy ass to do something while I wait for my old job to bring me back.

If I had a need for a statistician, I'd interview you tomorrow.

hah, thanks for the vote of confidence. :hi:

Added in the Pass Efficiency ratings for both Defense and Offense. I'd expect us to climb up the rankings the next few weeks. We've played a tough SEC Schedule up to this point stats wise. :BANGHEAD2:
