The SEC did fairly well in Bowl games this season going 7-2. I can't remember when the SEC had this many teams in bowl games. We've had 6 many times.
Here are the SEC's records against major conferences this bowl season:
Big 10: 2 win, 1 loss
ACC: 2 wins
Big 12: 1 win, 1 loss
Even go back over the past 15-20 years and see how the Vols have done against the Big 10.
The only two teams to beat the Vols in the last 2 decades were Iowa and Penn State. The Vols have beaten Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, Wisconsin.
Seems that the SEC when it comes to winning National Championship in NCAA football, the SEC owns the Big 10 lately. Looking back over the past 10 years, the following SEC teams have won NC's: UT, Florida, LSU (twice). That's pretty good!
