With four games remaining in the regular season against Miss State, UGA, UTEP & Vandy, (orange are home games) where do you see Dylan Sampson finishing in the SEC single season Rushing TD records? He's got 19 now and holds Tennessee's All Time Rushing record for a single season.

Please note that Derrick Henry's Rushing TD record (28) included the SEC Championship Game (FL) and two playoff/bowl games (Mich State and Clemson). Therefore, at minimum Dylan Sampson will have one additional bowl game but, possibly more if we make it into the playoffs and advance.

I say he gets 7 more, for 26 total. If he plays the whole game against UTEP and they keep feeding him he will pass 28.

I could see him in sole possession of 3rd place by regular season’s end. If we make any kind of playoff run, he could break Henry’s record.

He's averaging two per game, so knowing we play at least one postseason game (and assuming he doesn't get hurt) he could break the record. At least five games left x two per game = 29. We play more than that he could get to 30.

But, the passing game is starting to come together and Nico is going to get some scores through the air that are going to take opportunities away for rushing TD's. So, my final prediction is he comes up one short of tying Henry. 27

Another good question is when does he break single season UT rushing record? He will go over 1,000 for the season and over 2000 for his career in the first quarter Saturday. He's currently averaging 117 per game. If he ups that to 122 over the last four, he breaks it against Vanderbilt.

That said, he's due for a 200 yard game, which I think comes this weekend. Hopefully he has a great game against UGA and gets another hundred then breaks the single season mark against UTEP.

If he gets 2 against UGA, then I think he breaks Henry’s record and may get 30. I know that sounds insane but it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

Dylan needs 10 to take over the all time rushing TD lead for the SEC. Here is the breakdown:

Miss State: 3
UGA: 1
UTEP: 3
Vandy: 2
First Bowl/Playoff Game: 1

If he stays healthy he should get 24 but if Nico & WRs starts hitting the long TDs he may not get the opportunities. I mean if he has a nagging injury when we get on goal line, might give it to Peyton Lewis or whoever is healthy just hard to predict because you have to get the ball to score.

Including possible SEC CG and 2 or more playoff games, I think this is the list we need to be looking at:

1730809725718.png

Still amazing that Barry Sanders got to 37 without post-season included: 2,628 yards and 37 touchdowns in 11 games. He had another 222 yards and 5 (FIVE) touchdowns in the Holiday Bowl. No idea why they don't include those and bump him up to 42 total for his junior season. He went over 300 yards in four games that year. Incredible. And of course he won the Heisman.

I don't think Dylan can get to Barry's record. Some things are just near-impossible to break. But he can make this list, top 10 in college football history, I think.

2 in each regular season game plus another 4 or 5 in the 2-3 games we play post-season, that puts him up in the #3 or #4 (tie) neighborhood. He can do that, for sure.

Just stay healthy and don't give up the rock, Dylan. Keep churning.

Go Vols!

we need Sampson to break the all time record so we can recruit better backs.

Know more after this weekend. If he averages 2 TDs the rest of the year he breaks the record. Really would like to see him get 3 this weekend.

Interesting. Over 1/4 of those on VN (who voted) believe Dylan Sampson will score 10 or more rushing TDs this season. Over 40% say he will tie Derrick Henry or surpass him!!

Run Dylan, Run!!!
