SEC Statictics

I find it interesting that UT and KY are the only two teams without a leader in any statistical category listed by ESPN.
Southeastern Conference Statistics - College Football - ESPN

I don't even think we lead in most freshmen played. Anybody know where to find this stat?

We have played more TRUE freshmen than any team in the country. Vandy is saying they play more freshmen than anyone but those are primarily REDSHIRT freshmen because they redshirted 21 players from the 2013 class. Vuck Fandy.

I for one don't like the current red shirt terminology. A red shirt Freshman is a Sophomore, so why not call them a red shirt Sophomore? To me it would make a lot more sense to call students by their academic grade, not athletic eligibility status. When it comes to a red shirt Senior, just call it like it is, a fifth-year senior.

I hate to break it to Vandy, but there's a world of difference between a true freshman and a red shirt Freshman.

The announcers doing the Vandy games constantly recite the erroneous "fact" that they "play more freshmen (31) than any other team". In fact, the overwhelming majority of those "freshmen" are in their second year. It's very deceiving, but I guess it sounds good.

Heard Kesling say this morning that we are the least penalized team in FBS. 9 Penalties for the year. Have not verified that is accurate, but that's what he reported.

Least in terms of Yards, tied for 3rd least total penalties. Which, by the way, is an unbelievable stat especially when coupled with the fact that we have played more true freshman this season than anyone.

UT is 3rd in penalties per game at 3. Clemson averages 2.33 and Navy averages 2.75.

Yes, UT has the fewest penalties but they've only played 3 games. Still very impressive given how young we are.

UT does lead the nation in fewest penalty yards per game at just 21.33 YPG. Another very impressive stat!

EDIT: Quoted the wrong poster. I'll take my "Jimmy" and go home. :p

Look at the total Offense and you will see we are last.... And we have yet to play an SEC team.
You can't win without showing strong offensive numbers every week.

Who cares if we've played an SEC game? We've played a team as good as or better than any team in the SEC.

We're probably the only SEC team that has played only 3 games and all of them against Bowl teams.

Miss State got to beat up on Southern Miss, UAB, and S. Alabama. Alabama played Southern Miss and Florida Atlantic. Playing cupcakes allows you to pad the stats.

Maybe, but S. Carolina has played 4 games and all went to bowl games last season:

East Carolina
UGA
Vandy

They play Mizzou next which would make it 5 teams. Not as uncommon as you may think.
