It's going to be good ...

Trailer

A father-and-son story written into the pages of football folklore, it can be argued that no family has had more influence on a sport than the Mannings. ESPN Films' SEC Storied 'The Book of Manning', premieres Tuesday, Sept. 24th 8 p.m. ET on ESPN

they were all great players for their schools and have had great pro careers.

i don't know if "influence" is the right word though

i'm interpreting influence as beyond the playing field.

i don't know if the mannings were ever nfl pa union reps or how much influence they have on the athletic department as mississippi or tennessee. if they are consulted on league matters by the nfl, ncaa, sec, etc.

Obviously the senior Manning has great influence. Cutcliffe doesn't get the Ole Miss job with out him. Eli doesn't go to Ole Miss w/o Cutcliffe.

There are few dads that have the influence to restructure draft picks of their sons.

Gator,

I don't believe you have to be in the NFLPA, be consulted by the league or the NCAA, or have a voice in a big-time athletic department to exert "influence". One can make a very strong argument this family has provided exemplary leadership and served as role models on a national level far better than any example one might think of, especially for our youth.

When you repeatedly see our best athletes fail miserably as role models, it's a great story to see this family do the things they do and with the class they do. This, too, is influence.

A very dear friend of mine who resides in Mississippi told me the reason Cut lost the Ole Miss job is that he ran out of Mannings...

He refused to fire the coordinators is what did him in, specifically defense. Khyatt wasn't having any of it, so a year after Eli they let him go, even though they went 10-3 and tied for first in the west the year before. Stupid move on ole miss's part. I could see it maybe if they were Alabama, but it was definitely premature for them Imo

Saw the screening at Manning's in New Orleans. Must see. Mostly a focus on Archie and how his dad effected how he raised his boys, but a very nice portrait of the family. I rank it in my top three ESPN docs thus far.

Definitely thought that Ole Miss prematurely fired Cut, but Cut was very loyal to his assistants.
