SEC wants a 4 game playoff

Southeastern Conference coaches want football playoff to include top 4 - ESPN

I'm all for some type of playoff. BCS bowls have now turned into a joke. Half aren't worth watching anymore due to conference ties

the quote from Will was a little excessive.

"I think it needs to be the four best teams in the country," Florida coach Will Muschamp said. "I don't think it needs to be the conference champions because in our league we might have four of the best teams in the country."

While I agree that in any given year the SEC might have 2 of the top 4, I think 4 of 4 is stretching it a bit.

Arky would have beaten Stanford. And I would like their chances against Ok St and Oregon.

Im not saying you are wrong. Im just saying you may not be right. But you have already said that OkSt or UofNike MAY have beaten Arky. That puts Bama, LSU, OkSt, UofNike into that 4 team playoff, with Arky arguing that they should be in.

And that is why we need to go to 8 teams, and then the 9th team can argue that they should be in. But once you get out to the 8th, 9th, 10th teams, the arguments mean less.

An 8 team playoff would be cool.

For now though I'm just glad we are moving to a playoff format at all.

Conference ties have ruined most bowls.

Im 46 years old. For as long as I can remember Big Ten and PAC 10 have had the Rose Bowl, SEC has always been in the Sugar, Big8 (or Big 12 whatever they are called) have had the Orange, The SWC had the Cotton. And then the Fiesta came along and muddied it up even more.

Point being, there have always been Conference ties. What is screwing the bowl system up is that there are conferences who want to keep those ties, while still having a playoff. But the ties are part of what made the Bowls so popular for so long.
