Secret Service should hire more women?

Summary - men are bad, women are good. Adding women to the working environment doesn't make men better; it just discourages them from continuing to be bad.

Bill Clinton, as someone that still gets protection, wholeheartedly agrees with this.

Why do ex-presidents get SS protection? Just curious if there is a national security reason or if it's a perk since they conceivably could be a target.

Sitting in office for at least four years I imagine the individuals are exposed to quite a bit of classified information. So personal protection provided by the SS post term is not entirely to protect the individual but to also protect the country from the knowledge of the individual being obtained by enemies of that state.

Just saw an article that W will be the first ex-POTUS subject to a law passed in 1997 that limits SS protection for ex's to 10 years after service. Coincidental that it was passed under Clinton but doesn't apply to him?

United States Secret Service: How Protection Works

That is BS imo. I would have to believe terrorists like Al Qaeda would be gunning for GWB and Obama until their deaths.

Also, how can Clinton rightfully make a decision like that and not have it applied to him. He should have been raked over the coals for that.

I like the legislation for two reasons:

1. The POTUS should only be protected by the state as head of the state.

2. It might make future Presidents think twice about making unnecessary enemies.

As for the rationalization that they should be protected in order to protect "state secrets"; it is about time that as a country governed by the people, "state secrets" were abolished.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with protection expiring. Just thought it was funny that Clinton signed the bill but it doesn't apply to him (AFAIK)

Well, it is either self-interest or could have to do with the fact that it was signed in his second term. I have no idea if the latter would play any part. Either way, I have no problem with Clinton wanting protection for himself.

If he would have made it apply to him the Clintons would be out almost $10,000 (or more) per month they charge the SS for rent on their property.
