As the article states, the hypothetical stipend isn't really the lynchpin in this whole thing. For far too long the NCAA has been promoting the fantasy that Texas operates the same way as San Jose St. I'm in the camp that says it's time to stop pretending.

Where do you get this from?

I actually think you might be right. If the power players are going to consolidate into a new division based around football, then the ACC has a ton of dead weight compared to the other four.

The SEC, Big 10, and Big XII could poach any school of value from the ACC and further consolidate who is splitting the money.

If they go to four or five big conferences they'll likely stop playing 1AA teams, which will have a major impact on AD funding for those schools.
