should be a lifetime ban for the first offense....STOP USING ROIDS!!!!

Selig is also a poor excuse for a commisioner. He ought to ban himself from the front office while he's at it. But I agree that roids ought to send a player packing the first time.

I am not sure why so many hate Selig.

It's the player ass. which is the problem

Hey I actually like this proposal. this is proably the toughest proposal out of any sport except the olympics.

Great, the penalties are harsh... Now how about actually catching the players? The problem in the majors is both fault of the players and the MLB. Many of the players are irresponsible, and the MLB does nothing to penalize them. I can only imagine the state of the game if roids were successfully removed from it. It would be very different.

I know, but I'm just comparing what I see going on in baseball against other professional sports. In football and basketball, if you mess around bad enough, you get a swift kick in the behind no questions asked. Selig has a lot of rules in place now, but it seems to me that in baseball, if you get caught you get a smack on the wrist and that's it.

I think what Selig is trying to do right now is hold off the PR nightmare that's about to come through his gate in an avalanche, and he's doing it by making examples of some players rather than actually eliminating the problem.

It's not as tough as it sounds. 50 games for the first offense isn't that many games for a baseball player because of how many games are played in comparison, it would probably be about 4 games in a college football schedule.

Missing games is not the point. Multiply the average player's salary by 1/3 and then tell me if you think the penalty is severe.

50 games is a LOT of games whether they played 100 or 162 games.

Baseball is taking the heat right now, but anybody that thinks the NBA and NFL are drug free is kidding themselves. That lovefest last week between the NFL and Congress was sickening.

I didn't say the NFL was drug-free.

I know you didn't. I wasn't really aiming at you with that comment. All I'm saying is that MLB is taking a lot of heat right now and though most of it is deserved, some of it is just because kicking baseball has become the cool thing to do.

I agree. I would like to see ALL the professional leagues respond with a "no-tolerance" policy. If anyone thinks that nobody in football or basketball has been juicing, then they're living in a fairy-tale world. Hell, kids in high school are using.

It is really unfortunate that "America's Pasttime" has been marred by this scandal. It would be awfully nice to see something positive come from all this mess whereby we can avoid having to deal with this in the future AND send a message to kids that steroids are NOT O.K.

Although the new rules are better. I still strongly believe that it should be a season or lifetime ban for the first offense. Baseball is losing alot of its swagger and is slowly losing peoples respect...including mine.

Yeah, it really is. Maybe it's just the spite of remembering the McGwire v. Sosa homer race from a few years back. It's kind of bad knowing that they juiced to get that and that for all intents and purposes, Roger Maris is still the true home run king.

I'm not really too sure of how I feel about this whole thing. But I do know that while it's sad that the game is being marred by all of this, I also believe that the MLB office let all that go on like it did. As a fan, I would like to see frequent mandatory testing done by the MLB with a no-tolerance policy. And it appears the no-tolerance is gonna happen -- The player's union won't really have a choice. Either they agree to it themselves or congress will force them to.
