Prepping for an upcoming move and I'm trying to unload some unused things. Has anyone sold large collections of CDs recently, and what would be a reasonable price? I have probably 400ish albums, everything from metal to Dave, classical to prime country.

Years ago, when the PS3 first came out, I sold a ton of mine at McKays and was able to pay for the system, game and extra controller with what I got for them. I don't recall how many I sold, I worked in radio for years and had already loaded them to an external hd and there was a ton of them. I do know that they have a limit on how many you can try to sell per day. I believe it's 2 baskets full. I think it took me 3 trips to sell them all, but it's a start for you.

You won't get much. A few months ago I sold around 150 cd's in their cases for roughly 60 cents each. I sold mine at a thrift store though. All were in great shape too.

Perhaps splitting it up perhaps by genre and selling it that way. So for instance selling 50 or your hair metal albums, 20 of your smooth jazz, 10 of your Broadway show tunes, etc. Might be a way to bring more money.

I'd be interested in any fleetwood Mac you may have, also any Michael Jackson, zepplin too.

I am local so you wouldn't have to ship.

As someone else suggested, perhaps break them into groups: genre, artist, etc. I know a lot of folks aren't fans of Ebay, but I've had pretty good luck selling stuff on there. Sold a pretty large CD collection several years ago, but I don't recall how much I got for it. The good thing about CDs are you can ship them relatively cheap as Media Mail.

Not sure where you are located but I took mine to Mr. Kay's in Johnson City a few years ago. I had a couple hundred CDs and and maybe 50 or so DVDs. They gave my about $250 and I was happy.

I had thought about the genre idea. I may try listing on Craigslist and offer the whole collection for a set amount or individual genres at their own prices.

$250, but you have to upload them, and the CDs come free :)

There is some cool stuff in there. Not sure what kind of music you like, but tons of good alternative/rock from the 90s and 2000s, hard to find house music from the peak of the genre, some heavy stuff and rap, and even some nice classical, jazz, and holiday music.

as an alternative to splitting by genre you may want to split by value. It will be time consuming but if you check out what you believe to be rarer items on Ebay and Amazon you can get a feel for value.

Most stuff sells on Amazon for a few pennies but the sellers make maybe a buck since there is a standard shipping charge that has a small margin.

What you may find though is that about 10% of your collection has values in the 5 - 10 buck range. Sell those separately then bulk sell the stuff that's worth basically nothing (you can split this group by genre if you wish).

A small fraction of the collection may bring as much or more than the remainder but you have to take the time to check the value.

I am legitimately interested in a few select artists if you have the time to sort through and pull out a couple.

Honestly I would go to the disc exchange and see what you get.

I didn't even realize they were still around. I wonder what trade-in value is these days.

Just the original across the river. But saying that I haven't been in there in a year. I'll check next time I'm over there

It will feel unjust if they offer me $72, after I spent roughly $2 million acquiring many of my albums there during college.
