Senator Robert Byrd Is Seriously Ill, His Office Says - NYTimes.com

Mr. Byrd, a 92-year-old Democrat from West Virginia, was admitted to an undisclosed hospital late last week with symptoms of heat exhaustion and severe dehydration as temperatures in the Washington area approached 100 degrees. Though he was initially expected to remain hospitalized for only a few days, Mr. Byrd’s condition deteriorated and his doctors are now describing it as “serious,” a spokesman said.

Mr. Byrd’s absence could pose a challenge to Senate Democrats as they try to pass the final version of the financial overhaul bill and win other procedural battles in the week before the Independence Day recess.

Democrats will need every vote they can get. With the midterm elections on the horizon, Washington is as polarized as ever and, for the second time in just over six months, President Obama’s agenda could once again hinge on Mr. Byrd’s health.

when he's feeling better, do you think he may ask how the hospital keeps their sheets so crisp and white?

92 years, he had a good run. Probably better than he deserved.

Not one mention of him being a grand dragon in any of today's comments... :ermm:

Of course not, you know how the left likes to re write history. If this had been a R who was in the klan and died the headlines would start out something like: "longest serving senator and long time member of the klan past away toady."

"Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds."

-- Former Klansman and current US Senator Robert Byrd

That's the kind of "quality" senator this idiot was....

Ultimately his attitude changed with his age and the ages. Being at 50 years old I have know in my life time a lot of older people from the same era whom have under gone similar change. Peoples are truly a product of there environment and the times in which they live.

No excuse, I am not willing to give him a pass. People have got to be held responsible for their actions, he was never held accountable by the left for his racism. The left has a history of racism, this is just one example.

Being slightly prejudice and racist is one thing.

Being a high-ranking member of a terrorist organization specifically designed to hate and attempt to exterminate perceived inferior races is an entirely different matter....

As I remember he was taken to task the whole of his career to a degree, very publicly so. It can also be argued that the left has grown and changed with the ages and the times. Electing an African American as president says it so eloquently.

of course the left changes with the times since it's the only way they'll get elected. A racist KKK member gets elected in WV in the 50's but not so much anymore.

electing a worthless president with zero experience and socialist tendencies says very clearly what the left is truly about

The left did not elect Obama.
The right did not elect Bush.

The center elects our presidents.

But the radical left votes five times as often as the right in most elections. (not counting the dead ones who still maintain they have the right to vote.)

Barry is not black, my understanding is he is only about 6% black. The media gave Byrd a pass for as long as I can remember.

So you're saying there weren't hundreds of thousands of people who voted for Obama that wouldn't normally vote unless there's "history" to be made?
