Serious Question

How TF is Beamer recruiting this well? He seems like a goofy azz guy and it's freaking South Carolina, a barely .500 program historically that has never won shiott. I don't get it. We really need to slow his roll this fall with an epic beatdown.

Yeah, I’m surprised also. It would seem that somewhere along they way he has learned to recruit. I’m sure he learned a good bit from his father.
It might change, but right now he is giving Clemson some trouble in South Carolina. It also doesn’t hurt that USCjr is close to GA and FL. There is much competition in these states, but also a ton of talent. It’s also probably no coincidence that he has recruited well in the Virginia, D.C., and Maryland area. His fathers old stomping ground.

Beamer is a high energy guy goofy yes but that enthusiasm and bravado rubs off on recruits they like that plus I’m sure his fathers connections to fertile recruiting grounds has helped him as well. He is building something in South Carolina and we better be ready especially our defense on Sep. 30 or the twerp will beat us again.

Four of his top six recruits are in-state guys. Beating Clemson last year was immense for him and his staff.
Yep that win and beating us really boosted their recruiting they went from getting blown out by Florida to staring at a 6-6 record to finishing 8-4 with two top ten ranked wins to finish the season. It was a remarkable two game turnaround.

So that somehow justifies him having a higher per average recruit than us? Who just won 11 games and beat the brakes off of Clemson?
That’s what you took from my comment? I was literally answering a question that was posed. Tennessee recruiting was never part of the discussion until you chimed in.

they blew their load early.

if you go look at a lot of their last classes you will see similar recruits. They won't maintain the average. They just got their top end guys early, most of the rest of the guys they are actually in on aren't the same caliber. Yes there are still some good/elite recruits they will still get, but they have gotten most of their top bunch. while ours is still waiting.

who knows, maybe they end up higher, but I wouldn't be worried about them 4 months before the season even begins.

Much like his dad, ESPN has hyped him to the MAX! ESPN loves all things Beamer, for some odd reason. VT had one excellent player, and ESPN tried to turn that into a dynasty, tradition-laden program. They had their shot, and FSU blew their doors off when FSU got serious about the game.

If Beamer doesn't match the hype, he will slide to obscurity, much like his whiny-faced father.

People underestimate Beamer because he is goofy, but the guy has worked for Fulmer (grad asst), Frank Beamer, Spurrier, Kirby, and Lincoln Riley. That is a pretty impressive resume and if he learned just a little from each of those guys he is likely to be pretty good at his job.

Vols need to reassert their historical dominance over SC and never let up or they may become a thorn in our side.

From 1995-2011 Virginia Tech went 167-51 with 7 top ten finishes. They also had a ton of guys drafted over that 17-year stretch. If you want to think that they were overhyped fine, but they were a lot more than just Michael Vick.

Looking at those years, which I did, they benefited from being in the Big East, amazingly soft schedules, and from 1998 on, non-stop hype from ESPN. Their SOS was uniformly pitiful.

Bobby Bowden, love him or hate him, built FSU into a power by going anywhere to play anyone, and it took years and years for him to gain relevance. Whiny Beamer comes along, puts together decent teams in a pitiful conference, has one major recruiting hit in Vick, and ESPN hyperventilates for 3-4 years trying their best to create a powerhouse from nothing.

The even created the term 'Beamer Ball', which was basically emphasizing defense and the kicking game......which I think a certain General had memorialized decades prior in something called the 'Maxims' or something like that... ;-)

My point being that Lil Beamer is getting a lot of the same ESPN hyperbolic love, and it is turning into good recruiting.

Id like to also hear about how successful Virginia Tech was before Beamer got there.

Shane’s a goofball, but his dad was one hell of a football coach.
