a lot of ppl voted for him because of the "historic" significance.
And here is the historical significance they got:
Part of what is wrong with the American way of government since the ascension of Barack Obama:
The passage of legislation at night;
the passage of legislation by stealth, strategy, and artifice;
the fascist style grab at private enterprise;
the surrender of our future to the international money managers;
the federalization of every itch and neurosis;
the pandering to in-favor special interest groups;
the triumph of identity politics;
the elevation of one group at the expense of another;
the sacrifice of constitutional rights to special interests;
the exaltation of the group over the individual;
the criminalization of civil issues;
the distortions which occur from one-party rule;
the hubris of rulers who operate without effective press oversight.
Here is a good example; "the pedophile protection act," snuck in as an amendment to the defense bill.
The legislation, backed by President Barack Obama, would extend federal protections granted under the 1968 hate crimes law to cover those physically attacked because of their gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability.
"This bill simply recognizes that there is a difference between assaulting someone to steal his money, or doing so because he is gay, or disabled, or Latino or
Muslim," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said.
Republicans not voting or voting yes on cloture and no on Brownback Amendment ('To clarify that the amendment shall not be construed or applied to infringe on First Amendment rights.')
Not voting

Bunning (R-KY)
Corker (R-TN)
Graham (R-SC)
Gregg (R-NH)
Martinez (R-FL)
Without the not votings this thing would have gone down in flames. Cloture would have been denied, and Leaky Leahy would have had to find another way to put one over on us.
People, we have two sorry assed excuses for Republican Senators representing Tennessee in Washington and I'd just about bet both vote to seat the unsuitable Sotomayor.
Voting Yea
Collins (R-ME)
Lugar (R-IN)
Snowe (R-ME)
Voice vote passage came immediately after supporters cleared a 60-vote procedural hurdle imposed by Republicans trying to block consideration of the legislation. That vote was 63-28.
Five RINO Republicans who voted with the democraps.

Not a surprise that the DemRats decided to push this through late at night. This is the bill that threatens to imprison Pastors who speak out against homosexuality ot islam and also protects every alternative lifestyle (including pedophilia). This was a big deal last month and many decent Congressmen tried to put a stop to it. Unfortunatley, it looks like the Dem slime and the homosexual lobby snuck it through.
Another way this particular way to get this stopped was to have voted to fund the F-22s in the defense bill, in which case obambi had vowed to veto the bill.
I know Alexander joined the democrat and rinos and voted to cut off funding for the F-22, I don't know about Corker.

This sickening bill hits pretty close to home for me.
My next door neighbor has a grandson who could now be prosecuted under the 'hate crime' statute.
A couple of years ago a pedophile who had lured in and then physically sexually violated several 8 to 10 year old boys was sentenced of something like 167 years.
My neighbor's grandson was a prison guard and was ordered to escort that prisoner to his cell. Along the way the pedophile decided he wanted to do something else instead. At first the prisoner was asked nicely to move on and when he didn't comply he was ordered to do so.
The prisoner replied to the order with something like; 'kiss my shiny butt.' and at that time the guard followed procedure to a T. He put him in a hammer lock, bent him over a table, cuffed him and called for another guard to help escort him to the cell. If you think prisoners readily comply with everything they are lawfully told to do by prison guards, always without the use of any force, I have to ask, 'just what planet are you from?'
The prisoner filed a complaint of abuse and heaven help us all, the higher ups agreed and suspended the guard and the state proceeded to prosecute him.
The charges have been dropped because the state didn't have a leg to stand on, but that smear is still on his record.
He hasn't gotten his job back either but has an attorney who is working on the matter.
No doubt if it should ever go all the way to the SCOTUS and Sotomayor is there, she would rule the state had proper cause to fire him and being the activist judge she is, she would probably ask the justice department to prosecute him under the hate crimes statute.
More on this perverted hate crims bill.

547 SEXUAL DEVIANCES TO BE PROTECTED BY FEDERAL MARSHALS
Even if mark-up amendments are permitted (which can be easily deleted in conference), the forthcoming S.909 will mirror a House bill H.R. 1913, already passed 249-175 along strict party lines, which makes "sexual orientation," "gender," and "gender identity" into federally-protected classes under the law, and codifies federal protection of up to 547 types of sexually deviant behaviors, including:
* Incest sex with ones offspring (a crime, of course)
* Necrophilia sexual relations with a corpse, also a crime
* Pedophilia sex with an underage child, another crime
* Zoophilia bestiality, a crime in numerous states
* Voyeurism a criminal offense in most states
* Fronteurism a man rubbing against an unknown womans buttocks
* Coprophilia sexual arousal from feces
* Urophilia sexual arousal from urine
Attempts by House Republicans to add amendments stating "pedophilia is not protected as a sexual orientation" were specifically blocked and defeated by House Democrats.
Lesbian Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) expressed opposition to excluding pedophiles from the bill, and Democrats voted with her to strike any child-protection amendment.
She claimed that pedophiles would not be defined within sexual orientation, but wouldn't put that in writing, and refused to define that phrase "sexual orientation," which Congressman Steve King (R-IA) said will include all 547 sexual deviances listed in the American Psychiatric Association's DSM-III manual of clinical psychoses, including pedophilia, so now thanks to most Democrats, child molesters will be protected by federal law. In response on the House floor, Congressman Alcee Hastings (D-FL) not only admitted it would, but defended that all 547 psychoses SHOULD be defended by this new law, saying, "This bill addresses our resolve to end violence based on prejudice and to guarantee that all Americans regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability or all of these 'Philias' and fetishes and 'isms' that were put forward need not live in fear because of who they are. I urge my colleagues to vote in favor of this rule."
"Who will govern the governors? There is only one force in the nation that can be depended upon to keep the government pure and the governors honest, and that is the people themselves.
They alone, if well informed, are capable of power, and of restoring the nation to its rightful course if it should go astray. They alone are the safest depository of the ultimate powers of government"
